Unless things change radically, I am planning on being at Redbone's at about 6 tonight (Saturday).

[livejournal.com profile] stevefava is in from the West Coast.

I am not so much about drinking in bars these days, but the guys from www.beerdvocate.com.

I'll be wearing a tan ballcap that says "MassCap" on it. (Yes, there are people in my LJ I have never met.

  • And here I thought Godwin was a figure from English History. I know we have all run into the "Nazi" comments on threads, but I never realized is was Godwin's Law

  • What do you think of Wikipedia? Anyone doing any writing or editing there? I sometimes just while away my time reading it. I like its world-wide nature.

  • Saw most of Chronicles of Riddick, but never got to see the end. I don't know that I missed much. There was some pretty good CGI, and in general, it was OK. Kind of a re-hashed story.

  • [livejournal.com profile] evilnicola tell me that she has met everyone on her friends list. I have 92 friends list, and at least 11 of them are people I have never met. I would say a good 20 more are people I have met once or only see, say, at Pennsic.

  • I think NaNoWriMo is pretty much stalled out at 10,000 words. I will keep writing, but I am pretty sure it ain't gonna be completed by the end of the month. There was just too much going on.

Went down to Redbones and had a long talk with [livejournal.com profile] sonofabish, who is as cool in person as he is on LJ. Introduced him to [livejournal.com profile] stevefava, who was, as always, surrounded by a circle of friends.

I went down planning on sampling some of the Northwest beers they had on, and while I did have a Rogue Shakespeare Stout, we get Rogue up here a lot. Also had a Coffeehouse Porter from Berkshire Breweing. [livejournal.com profile] sonofabish highly recommends it.

I never realized it, but there is an amazing package store right in Davis Square, and they had lots of really cool stuff. Unfortunately, the line was right or 10 people deep.

I also visited Porter Square Books. It's an independent bookstore run by the folks who ran that great bookstore in Concord. (They left there because of some deal with the managament).

Anyway, it's right in the big plaza where Star Market is, and the selection is exactly what you'd expect in an excellent indie bookstore. The staff is terrific and really knowledgable. The selection, while not huge, is well-focused. My favorite stuff -- science fiction and history -- boats an excellent selection, and all the new stuff is there, too. Great selection of cookbooks, literature and children's books, too. The magazine selection is really thin, but that will probably change.

It's not a huge space, and it certainly won't relace Wordsworth. But if you're an indie bookstore person, you oughta to there.
