I like Mike
Jun. 16th, 2005 03:35 pmMy friend Mike DiMauro is a sports columnist at The Day, a newspaper in New London, Conn., that consumed years of my life.
In fact, Mike will tell you I was the one who convinced he wanted to become a sports columnist. It involved a column about the hot dogs at Palmer Field in Middletown, Conn. Enough said about that.
Fact is, Mike is a danged good columnist. Onply problem is he's a life-long Yankee fan (he grew up in Middletown, Conn., and had he lived maybe three miles east, he would have been on our side of the Connecticut River, and therefore a Red Sox fan.
The point is he posted this gem today.
Is there any other team that would refer to a season as "The Impossible Dream" that ultimately ended in failure?
Gotta love it.
