Wednesday update
Sep. 21st, 2005 07:55 pm1. Seven students and I are going to the National Honor Society national convention in Washington, D.C., (actually Crystal City, Va.). We are hosting a welcome room on the first night, which is cool. I am presenting to teachers and students (I think) as well. So Friday, the national director tells me a group that is pushing for a moment of silence for Memorial Day is involved with our conference and wants the group to provide two students to lay a wreath at the Tom of the Unknown Soldier on the Thursday of that week. He tells me that he said to them, "I know, how about the kids from Peabody Veterans Memorial High School." That would be us. Just waiting for details now.
2. So I get an e-mail tonight from the state NHS association director. She is sure I remembered I had agreed to present to the new NHS advisers next Wednesday in Franklin (Mass.).
Suuuuure, I remembered.
What this means, of course, is that they trust *me* to introdoctrinate new advisers. Scary, eh.
3. I have my first Weight Watchers meeting tomorrow after school. There are something like 20-25 teachers and staff signed up. Only one other guy as far as I know. I don't usually post self-help stuff here, but there seem to be a lot of supportive WW folks in my group of friends, so I may as well tap into it.
4. So I was trying to break up class a little with some logic problems and "think-outside-the-box" questions. Apparently some of my kids are psychotic. I pullout the traditional, "A mother has six children and five potatoes. How can she make equal portions?" The usual answer is: "Make mashed potatoes. Several of my kids? "Kill one of the children, then you have five kids and five potatoes." You cannot make this up.
5. If anyone isn't already planning to go see Serenity next Friday, several of us are putting a group together. Unsure of time and place right now.
6. Laundry is eternal.
