1. There's this story that makes the rounds of the Internet about a conversation between a teacher and a dinner desk. Whenever I see it, I cringe a little because I have heard Taylor Maili recite the original poem, and it's a lot better.

What Teachers Make

Another one of his poems that really hits home is:

Tony Steinberg: Brave Seventh Grade Viking Warrior

He's reading in Massachusetts in April, and I cannot wait.

2. Quote from a good friend, commonly heard in Calontir: "Entertain me or be a pell!"

3. I cannot say I am surprised that the police arrested Neil Entwistle for shooting his wife and baby. Nasty, nasty stuff. This is one of the few times I am glad Massachusetts does not have a death penalty. I think, if we did, the British might not want to send him back here. Am I right, my British friends?

4. Watching the Rick Tocchet/Wayne Gretzky/Janet Jones gambling saga is like watching a bench-clearing brawl in super slow-motion. Can you say car wreck. (To the non-sports fans, the actress wife and the best friend of perhaos the Greatest (tm) hockey player evah, have been snagged in a high-stakes gambling investigation.

1. The weather forecast for Revere Beach, Mass., for 1 p.m. Saturday is: 31 degrees with a wind chill of 24. Looks as though the snow's gonna hold off. Donations to me or donations for the kids . . .

2. While we are on that topic . . .

Not that the National Weather Service wants to panic the Boston area and ensure brisk business at grocery stores tomorrow and Saturday, but . . .

...A POWERFUL NOREASTER WILL POTENTIALLY BRING HEAVY SNOW, VERY STRONG WINDS AND POSSIBLY EVEN A ROUND OF COASTAL FLOODING TO THE REGION SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY...
WE ARE STILL 2 TO 3 DAYS OUT FROM THIS STORM. HOWEVER...

THE POTENTIAL IS THERE FOR A MAJOR WINTER STORM. STAY TUNED TO LATER FORECASTS AND FOR POSSIBLE WATCHES IN THE NEXT 24 HOURS.

Just sayin’ is all.

3. [livejournal.com profile] muskrat_john (illustrator John Kovalic) has a teaser and a list of some pretty nifty games from Out Of The Box Games on his Live Journal.

4. The soundtrack so far this afternoon/evening (entire CDs)

"The Hard and the Easy," Great Big Sea.

"The Red Album," Hector of the Black Height.

"Whipporwill" Chateau Teafort Trio

"within a mile of home", (first CD) Flogging Molly

For Boston, Dropkick Murphys.

[I cannot find "the Warrior's Code," Dropkick Murphys. I wonder if it has run off to college.]

Next up: The Ballads CD from "Boats, Beaches, Bars and Ballads," Jimmy Buffet.

5. Obligatory "favorite movies" quote:

[Watching Flounder take abuse at ROTC]

Otter: "He can't do that do that to our pledges."
Boon: "Only we can do that to our pledges."
