Timing is everything.

There are times in my life when I think about running off and joining the circus.

Well, maybe not the circus.

There are times, especially after a long day of teaching, when I think about returning to the newspaper business.

I figure I have major chops when it comes to being an education reporter.

If I did it, I would want to do it at a decent size paper somewhere other than here, and I know I can get an inside track at a Gannett paper.

So today, I am just poking around at www.journalismjobs.com, and I see that Tallahassee (Fla.) is looking for an education reporter. State capital, two colleges, lots of high-end high schools, prime coverage area.

And the guy making the hire is Bob Gabordi, who I worked with as a cub reporter.

I honestly believe I could be a finalist with a phone call.

BUT IT AIN'T THE RIGHT TIME!

CANNA DO IT.

I don't think I regret this. It's just sorta funny, that's all.

Just finished "Into The Fire," and starting "Epiphanies."

1. Did I squee like a fanboy when Londo sent Vir out into the garden to wave at Morden? (Ask [livejournal.com profile] evilnicola). Especially during the flashback.

2. Ivanova: "My heart and I don't speak any more."

3. Juxtaposition . . .

Sheridan: "It's over because we've decided it's over."

Bluto in Animal House: "It's not over until we say it is."

New . . .

New book just read: "Seas of Crisis" by Joe Buff. I just never get tired of submarine novels, especially when they're set in a somehwat plausible future history (2011). Great, great stuff. Highly recommended. Better than the recent Tom Clancy stuff.

New music: "The Essential Bruce Springsteen" was on sale. It so rocks. (And I need to cleanse my brain of Great Big Sea, since I spent all frelling weekend listening to it). When it starts with "Blinded By The Light," "For You," "Spirit In The Night," "Sandy" and "Rosalita," followed by "Thunder Road" and "Born To Run" . . . well, boo-ya.

New favorite B5 quote: Bester line included for context.

Bester: By all rights I should arrest her and take her back with me.

Sheridan: Oh, you could do that. And I could nail your head to the table, set fire to it and feed your charred remains to the Pak'mara. But it's an imperfect world and we never get exactly what we want.

There should be a smiley by the Great Big Sea comment. Hehehehe.

I was going to post this to a particular mailing list.
A few of you surely will be able to figure out which one.

But I thought I'd share it here, because it's something I've been thinking about a lot.
It works on a much higher level than just as part of a game.
It's real-world stuff.

There's a line in the Lord's Prayer that says, "Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us." I say it at least twice every night before I go to sleep. (You can take the boy out of the church, but you can't take the church out of the boy).

I think about that line a lot. It has a simple clarity to it. Forgive and you shall be forgiven. It works on a level far beyond Catholicism. It's almost a ying-and-yang, you-sow-what-you-reap kind of thing.

There are folks who think I am naive or too trusting or too nice because I am willing to forgive fairly quickly. I don't think I really have the energy to actively "hate" someone or to try to screw up their lives.

There are some people I do not like. Really. But there's no one I think I want to hurt. Sure, there are some I am pissed off at. Especially one idiot.

Where's the line, folks? When do you forgive? When do you maintain the hurt?

In its original context, these thoughts beg the question of: "When do past acts stop impacting on present-day decisions?"

On a less serious tangent: I wouldn't boo Johnny Damon, send hate mail to Bill Buckner or wish for Barry Bonds to have a career-ending injury, like some other baseball fans. And I think Roger Clemens is still the greatest pitcher in Red Sox history, and I hope he comes back.

Anyway, I know there's more to explore here. But I am blasting Springsteen, getting ready to watch more Babylon 5 and do some serious writing. Oh, and dinner. Must have dinner.

PS: Please don't mock me because of this post.

This is the fifth post of the day.

I thought it might tie what I thought was "a new league record."

A little over a week ago, while waiting for [livejournal.com profile] alethea_eastrid to arrive, I posted fived times. I assumed that was the most I'd ever posted in a single day.

I just wasted time looking through my archives.

I also posted five times on Oct. 24, 2004 -- the Sunday of the week the Sox won the World Series -- and Jan. 18, 2005 -- I was bored, I guess.

But it turns out, six is the record -- Sept. 14, 2005 -- again boredom and avoiding work -- and Sat. Nov. 5, 2005 -- the day after I got out of the hospital for the medication error. (Which, by the way, has been dealt with).

There were a lot of great posts and quotes.

Here are two of them:

[livejournal.com profile] goldsquare: "Because you could get shot in the penis."

[livejournal.com profile] evilnicola in a discussion about the Yankees and the Red Sox:

"2 dozen crowns won by a rhino-hiding ass, or one crown won by a really good king?"

Oh, and I learned that I started reading [livejournal.com profile] cemeterygates because [livejournal.com profile] sonofabish referred me to a post she made.
