Three-day weekends are nice. I am glad I have another one this coming up.

Life is hectic but good.

Weekend included going to Maine with [livejournal.com profile] alethea_eastrid. It's wonderful when your sweetie's parents are nice people, like you and are great cooks. Tuna burgers one night, steak another, oatmeal one morning and whole wheat pancakes the other.

Went to the Cumberland Fair and ate too much. Bravely rode the Ferris Wheel, but passed on the swinging pirate ship.

Sunday was icky and rainy, but we had a great time having Tea and Weapons (well, youth armor-making) inside. A couple people did go outside and fight.

Went to the Boston Common today on a historical walk with my roommates and the ever-cute Fenway The Beagle.

(What's the difference between a beagle and a bagel? You don't cover a beagle with cream cheese)

Busy week ahead, including Open House Wednesday.

This one really bothers me.

Third in a week.

Another attack on girls by a man. Execution-style.

Scary as Hell.

I tell my kids, my friends and my colleages, it can happen anywhere. It could happen at my school tomorrow or next week or next year.

You can't stop it. I don't care what the precautions are. If someone's gonna do it, odds are he (almost always he) is gonna do it.

Well, yes, you can prevent sometimes, if people talk about it. That's why we need to connect with our kids and have them trust us.

But guards at doors and metal-detectors. Nope. Only people can stop these things.

I always wonder how I would react if these really happened where I was. I remember reading about the Columbine teacher who died after he saved kids. I liketo think I would react that way, and save the kids. (And, hoefully, survive it).

This one seems particularly unfair. These folks have segregated themselves on purpose, yet the evil found them. Very scary.

Mental illness is scary.
