Home from the road
Oct. 9th, 2006 11:05 pmI went out to Minneapolis to visit a friend this weekend, and the oddest thing happened at the airport on the way back.
So earlier in the day, I had seen the "How Many People With Your Name" meme, and discovered that there were like 5 "Bill Toscanos" and maybe 60-70 "William Toscanos." I cannot check the exct numbers. The link is down, probably because it was overloaded by LJ.
Anyway, get to the airport, swipe my credit card and I see my itinerary calls for a flight to Memphis, then onward to Jackson, Miss.
WTF?
To Boston, non-stop please.
My credit card name is TOSCANO, WILLIAM D.
Well, turns out the itinerary was for TOSCANO, WILLIAM DR
I had found him on web searches before:
Prof. Dr. William Toscano
Professor and Head
Division of Environmental and Occupational Health
University of Minnesota
School of Public Health
The problem? While my credit card has William, the ticket was in the name of Bill (which got me stopped by a non-American security guy at Logan on the way out).

elizabear pointed out, the detour signs from airport to the Mass Pike (because of tunnel work) righteously suck.
Oh, also 2+ hour layover in Detroit, so I had a sandwich and a local beer. I mentioned to the server that I was a "beer geek from Boston," and the guy behind me comes up and says, "Hey, I am a beer geek from Boston." I ask him the obvious question, and he says yes, he has been to the Publick House and wishes he had known about it longer.
Oh, well. Back to school tomorrow.
