Some of you have asked about our wedding ceremony.

I have put it under a cut. It is very long. Christine is the justice of the peace. The ceremony was in her garden on a pretty, sunny Saturday morning.

Others have asked about children. Allison has two kittens, and I am quite happy with [livejournal.com profile] evilnicola and [livejournal.com profile] theresat, thank you very much.

Somehow, we don't seem to have a stated policy on whether or not a suspended student can make up work he/she missed and get credit for it. It seems to be up to the teacher, which in my opinion is bad.

Here's the deal.

A kid violates school rules, say gets caught with marijuana or is in a fight.

The student gets a five-day suspension.

Here's what I would like to know from you.

1. Should teachers be asked to get work together for the student to do while he/she is out?

2. Should teachers give the student the work he missed when he/she returns?

3. Should that work count if the student completes it?

4. The school has an attendance policy. If a student missed more than 15 days in the school year (and the days are not excused for doctor's appointments, etc.), the student does not get credit for the course. Should the five days out count against that 15?

I will share my opinions later.

Oh, there is joy in my life, and teaching is going well.

But some things make me grit my teeth.

1. Kerry Healey and Deval Patrick need to shut up. Tell me why *you* would be a good governor, not why your oppinent sucks rocks.

2. Ditto for the liquor stores campaigning against selling wine in grocery stores. Shut up about the support from the police and the specter of :kids getting liquor. Just admit you oppose it because it's gonna hurt you, and remind the consumer that a grocery clerk ain's gonna know a Chardonnay from a CabSav.

3. Gerry Studds' legally married spouse doesn't get a pension only because he's a guy. Discrimination, thy name is the U.S. Government.

4. On one hand, I am fricking tired of the page scandal. People screwed up on a massive level and should be put to sea in prison ships. On the other hand, dig deeper, and I bet you find more worms.

5. Miami really screwed the pooch with its inability to properly discipline its thugs . . . errrrr, student athletes . . . for a near-riot in a game last weekend. The other team, Florida International, had the caljones to toss kids from the team.

6. Announcing that someone's gonna blow off dirty bombs at crowded stadia is terrorism in and of itself. (And an obvious hoax).

I am sure there is more.

Have a nice day.
