Yes, I am posting after 6:15 a.m.

We have a half-day today with teacher in-service in the afternoon. I have been a 275-pound ball of stress lately, and my leg, which I injured Saturday, has been bothering the heck out of me. To keep things from getting worse, and to give me a chance to get to the doctor if necessary, I set up a reading for today and called in.

I really do feel less stressed alreayd, and the leg feels better.
ust being able to relax and sleep helped.

I have been struggling a little lately, largely because I have been ignoring the successes and focusing on the kids I am unable to reach. I also have snapped at kids a couple times this week, so I need to readjust.

I am also going to try to get my teaching life organized -- finishing grading (because grades are due next week) and set up for second semester.

I do plan to be at Crown this weekend, in fact, I lapsed into "Teh Dumb" and said to the autocrat (Baron Xavier), "What do you need?" and he said, "I hear you park cars." I wil be there early.

I will have the camera and will be taking lots of pictures, so just ask me, and I wil take some. Also, if you would, ask for the camera and get a couple of pictures of me.

There will be Tea With Weapons this Sunday at our house with youth stuff starting at 2 p.m. and heavy fighting at 4 p.m. I believe Sir Ankara is teaching. Even if you don't fight, come on and hang out. Just RSVP.

I have had coffee already. Shower time.

Please forgive the cross-posts

The East Kingdom Travel Fund Auction is rapidly approaching. It will be in the afternoon of Saturday, Nov. 11, at the East Kingdom University at MIT in Cambridge. Baron Aquel of Darkstead Wood is our auctioneer. He’s worth the price of admission.

I will be posting a semi-complete catalog of items within a few days. I know a lot of people are going to Concordia that day, so you might want to talk to someone about being a proxy bidder.

A couple of requests:

1. If you are donating an item, please send me a confirmation e-mail at bill@goonbox.com that tells me:

Your SCA name
Your contact information
What you are donating
How you are getting it to me
Any other details needed
Feel free to suggest an opening bid.

I will be more than glad to pick up items in the Great Boston Co-Prosperity Sphere.

2. If you still want to donate, please follow the instruction in No. 1.

In service,

Master Liam St. Liam

As part of my "Get Better" Day, I am catching up on things so I don't have to stress about them.

I try to rank the To-Do list in order, but I always find myself doing the easier things first.

The bolded items are done.

Working on the To-Do List

Finish newsletter and print.
Grade tests, papers.
Put grades in book.
Note to [school administrator].
Minimum: Check off who has done projects.
Letters of recommendation.
Auction Note.
Pull auction stuff together.
E-mail to Aquel.
E-mail to Constance on schedule.
Intercon stuff. [Registered]

Clean room.
Announce/Sign-ups for Senior Center thing.
New volunteer opportunities.
Pay bills.

Get out of the house for a while.
Play WoW
Go to pharmacy
Make quiz for Friday
Call Air Canada.

I have sent 11 e-mails in the last 90 minutes and made several related LJ posts.

Edit at 3 p.m., marking the newsletter and paying the bills as done. Also noting I got a phone call asking if I was ready to take WoW and go kill things. Not yet. Also, point out that I got involved in a mailing list discussion, and I have now sent 29 e-mails (not just to that list) over the last six hours. ;)

Other notes:

1. You will notice that "Start NaNoWriMo" is not on the list. I think I am smarter than that.

2. If you need appliance parts, I highly recommend Repair Clinic. I have dealt with them a couple of times, and I have always been pleased.

3, Does anyone know if there are any DOMA amendments/laws on the ballot in any states next week?

4. Why yes, I am using this as a way of procrastinating.

There's a good Washington Post article that sums up a lot of the ballot questions.

I would be interested in where you think we will stand a week from today.

1. Will there have been a "November Surprise" that might have effected the election.

1. Will Democrats be in control of the House?

2. Will Democrats be in control of the Senate?

3. Will Rick Santorum be exiled to Mordor?

4. Who will the governor of Massachusetts be?

5. How will the folks in South Dakota vote on abortions?

6. Eight states will be voting on gay marriage/civil unions. What do you think will happen?

7. Are there any local races/questions you are focusing on?

Oh . . . My hippie result )

It’s a good thing I do not phone-post from the bathtub.

1. There are many plastic frogs that live in our bathroom. One has a cowboy hat. I discovered today that if I squeeze him, dunk him and let him fill, I can:

  • Spray water so high it *could* hit the ceiling,

  • Water the plants

  • Hit the far wall of the hallway outside the bathroom door. (At least I bet I could. I was not gonna try.

2. What are some of the most commonly known Spoilers!!!!! )

3. I think people are probably pretty happy I cannot post to LJ during school. I have been a mad posting fool today.

But I have also got a lot of other stuff done, too. And miles to go before I sleep.

4. Great article about the Dropkick Murphys, pegged off the use of "Shipping up to Boston" in "The Departed."

5. Great Big Sea has a new DVD/CD coming out Nov. 21. You should treat yourself.

Being the warm, fuzzy teacher -- and a former journalist -- I get a lot of requests for letters of recommendation, and I do my best on them.

But I have spent a good part of today working on them, so I just want to write this one:

Dear Admissions Committee;

As a former newspaper reporter and a high school U.S. History teacher, I find it very hard to write fiction, so I am going to have to go with the cold hard facts. Joe Bagadonuts, in typically unwise fashion, asked me to write a letter of recommendation for him. Since he’s never asked me a question before – and he’s in my class for the third straight year – so figure I owe him this much.

If you google the phrase “Box of Rocks,” and hit “images,” you get a picture of young Joseph. As a staff, we added the comments “doesn’t sweat much,” and “sometimes stays awake for an entire class” so we could have positive comments for his report card. He has been a boon to our department budget because he has lost two U.S. History books, has paid for them both, and is not really sure where his third one is. “I was using it to keep the screen on top of the snake cage, but the snake got out,” was all he told me.

I have really enjoyed teaching Joe, largely because since this is his third attempt to pass U.S. History with me, he has most of the handouts, so it cuts down on my copying. Between him and his partner in crime – I mean good friend – Harry Hammasmich, there’s probably a complete set of my handouts floating around in their locker. (I will tell you more about Harry, who is also applying to your fine institution) in a separate letter.

So what good things can I tell you about Joe? He’s never been convicted of a felony, as far as I know. He doesn’t get angsty about grades, and he brings a pen or pencil to class at least twice a week. He is very responsible about serving all of his detentions, and he was on time for class on five separate days in October. He always answers every question on the test, usually by randomly guessing. He did not have the lowest SAT score in the building (I will write more about Harry in a separate letter), and his clothes are usually clean.

In short, Joe will be a warm body who will fill a chair, and his parents have enough money to send him to your school. He probably won’t clutter up the dorm too long because this boy is bound for a fraternity. He won’t put any kind of strain on your library staff, because he likely won’t be able to find the building. I give him a decidedly lukewarm recommendation and suggest that if you want further information, you call our local sheriff.

Sincerely yours,

Etc., etc.
