It's already Wednesday night . . .
Aug. 1st, 2007 07:41 pmJust a few random thoughts as my life is consumed.
1. I have to admit that if you had told me in April that we would be seven games ahead of the Yankees on August 1, I might have kissed you. I wish it were eight, like I thought it was, but that’s OK. The Magic Number is 50.
2. Sometimes you just find a writer’s voice that really appeals to you. And sometimes it’s someone you know to be excellent already.
Here’s one paragraph from Laura Resnick ‘s “Creation: The Launch,” with the narrator Ishmael (“Don’t call me that”), talking about making the decision to go ahead and create the earth.
“Well, now that we obviously had a solid Creation strategy and some exciting concepts to work with, God got very competitive. He started worrying that some other omnipotent being might beat us to the punch, so He was very eager to launch right away. I really should have put the brakes on, we weren't at all ready yet. But you try saying "no" to the Lord God Almighty and see what happens. (I'll tell you what happens. Supernovas happen.)”
It’s from Jim Baen's Magazine
You would need to pay for the magazine to finish it. I have not done that yet.
3. I am not sure if this line from Associated Press account of Donald Rumsfeld’s testimony today is balanced reportage or not, but it certainly sums what a lot of people think is the issue with our administration right now:
The former defense secretary took no responsibility today for the military's bungled response to Army Ranger Pat Tillman's friendly-fire death.
4. This is kinda cute.
5. Do you talk to yourself? I do. (I *know* the medication is supposed to fix that,). Anyway a few minutes ago I was thinking about the fact that a UPS delivery had not come yet. This is something we have to have before we can leave for Pennsic. I was getting a little angsty, and I said to myself, “Bill, worrying about this right now won’t help.” I calmed down. It couldn’t have been more than a minute later when I heard the bell and went downstairs to find the nice UPS man with the delivery.
6. We have a cow teapot, and it rocks to have a cow teapot.
