1. Now that I have a job, our one-car family days should come to an end. But today I made the decision to stay here while [livejournal.com profile] alethea_eastrid takes the car to and from work. She won't be back until 8:30 p.m., which gives me a lot of time to get things done, and there are a lot of things to get done. All of a sudden, on Monday, my days will be busy with actual work, which means that all the other stuff I have been accomplishing needs to be done at other times. Today, I am going to try to get a lot of that stuff out of the way.

You can expect a lot of posts, I bet, and I will be running Trillian all day (screen names on my info page). Give me a holler.

2. There has been a banishment here at House Chez Casa Villa Haus. Kakuru, who is clearly Alethea's cat, has been banished to the Cat/Sewing Room. There is food and water, and mayve I will toss the catnip mouse in there. Last night, she tried to dump the keyboard in my lap, and today -- while I was writing a letter pitching a story to a newspaper -- she was bumping my mouse hand to add additional typos to the story. Banished! Banished, I say.

Here she is, "helping" me read the newspaper:

In yur papuhz, trashing yur words.

3. I am about to recommend a Yankees' blog. No, I am not high, nor did I drink the "special mushroom tea" this morning. The lovely, [livejournal.com profile] fireroseboudicc, one of the most talented writers, I know is perfect in every way, except her passion for the second-place team in the American League East. I love her, though, because her passion is like mine for the Red Sox, the passion of a thousand white-hot suns. She is an accomplished fiction writer as well, but The Purist Bleeds Pinstripes is her Yankees blog. As someone said, "Know thine enemy."

4. In my opinion, Barack Obama has no right to criticize Hillary Clinton's war vote, because he did not have to make that decision himself, and at the time, the evidence supported such a vote.

5. So far today, I have gotten halfway through the dishes, made a couple of telephone calls, engaged in lively discussion , sent seven or so query letters to alt-weeklies in cities where the Dropkicks are playing on their tour and worked on a more formal blog that I am planning.

I am cranking up my freelance writing, and to be honest, stories on the SCA are something that papers are sometime interested in, if there are local people involved.

So, I toss out a few questions here:

1. Would you be interested in being profiled for a local newspaper (wherever you might be)?

2. Is there anyone interested who happens to live in Saratoga County? Are there many people from Concordia in that area, or is Concordia more focused around Albany?

3. If you answered yes to No. 1 or No. 2, are you going to be at Crown?

4. Are you from a local group that is looking for more publicity? We can work it from that angle too. If so, see Question No. 3.

Personally, I think teher would be an advantage to having the writer be a long-time Scadian.

5. On another topic, is anyone doing National Novel Writing Month, who would be interested in being profiled?

If any of this interests you, or you can think of someone else who might be interested, please e-mail me at bill@goonbox.com.

Thanks!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled stuff.

1. Imagine, if you will, that I am sitting here writing, listening to National Public Radio. It's a very soothing backdrop and a lot easier to listen to than, say, ESPN.

2. I finally got my hair cut. Crew cut. High and tight, baby! The only problem is it makes be look as though I am balding. Oh, wait  . . .

3. So far I have already gotten two responses from my pitch to do a story on the Dropkick Murphys. Unfortunately, they were both, "Sorry, we have done them recently."

4. Do you have a cat? More than one cat? You should read  Two Lumps , and should should order the new book!

5. Strange Dream Dept.: The night before last, I was dcreaming my usual "back in school" dreams, and, oddly, I was in high school -- still an adult, but as a student -- and skipping classes like mad (because I just couldn't get there to class on time). I also dreamed I was on a college campus, and I was supposed to go to "Kresge." In my dream, I could not for the life of me remember what campus it was on. After waking up, and thinking about it, I realized it was MIT. But later in the day I could not, for the life of me, remember the name "Kresge."

1. I just took a shower and realized that I don't have to comb my hair!

2. Today has been a day of cooking goodness. There is steak in coconut milk and green curry in the crockpot, I made an apple-raspberry crisp earlier, and I just pulled a raspberry cobbler out of the oven. I also made two loaves of zucchini bread.

3. I wish I could have gone to Camels Hump (Vt.) Elementary School.

4. OK, if I start reading newspapers, Kakuru will go sit on them and groom herself, allowing me to type.

5. Again, my wife loves me. She stopped at the Wells Country Store for lunch today and picked up a Boston Globe with all the parade stuff in it.
