1. It must be close to Christmas. [livejournal.com profile] alethea_eastrid just played the dogs barking Merry Christmas on her computer. The cat was not amused.

2. Speaking of which, I went to search for "folk music," and I typed "golf music." Folk Music Christmas from WUMB.

3. Also, every imaginable kind of Christmas music is here.

4. When you help create something, then leave, you work. I am glad to see that the community service spirit is still alive and well at PVMHS, though I sense the impetus was the student council adviser, who does everything I always did, but more quietly.

5. I find it amusing that WUMB uses the same survey site (zoomerang) as our youth initiative does.

6. There are a couple of excellent stories up at www.npr.org, including:

The Army tries to retain captains with bonuses

An interview with the guy who created DonorsChoose.org

An excellent waterboarding interview

Cartoons the New Yorker rejected

7. What do I mean "Snow watch?"

SNOW WILL RAPIDLY DEVELOP BY SUNDAY MORNING AND QUICKLY BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES. SNOW COULD FALL AT BLINDING RATES OF UP TO 3 INCHES AN HOUR AT TIMES LATE SUNDAY MORNING. SLEET WILL MIX IN WITH THE SNOW BY AFTERNOON FOR AWHILE...BUT SNOW STILL LOOKS TO BE THE PREDOMINATE PRECIPITATION TYPE.

BY THE TIME THE SNOW TAPERS OFF TO SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS EARLY MONDAY MORNING...AROUND A FOOT OR MORE WILL ACCUMULATE...WITH SOME LOCALITIES POSSIBLY APPROACHING TWO FEET.

WIND...INITIALLY FROM AN EASTERLY DIRECTION...COULD GUST TO 30 MPH... PRODUCING SOME BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF THE SNOW. THE COMBINATION OF SNOW AND WIND COULD MAKE TRAVELING NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE AT TIMES...INCLUDING BRIEF WHITEOUT CONDITIONS. THE WIND WILL SHIFT TO A NORTHWEST DIRECTION SUNDAY NIGHT AS THE STORM DEPARTS...BUT THE WIND WILL STILL GUST TO 30 MPH OR MORE AT TIMES.

(No, I do not know why the font changed)

1. Nothing on the snow front just yet. (Not that I am obsessive or anything.) Although, as I get older, I notice things get called off more and more quickly. Some stuff for Sunday was getting called off Friday afternoon. I do not think forecasts are *that* accurate yet. We already had one storm this season that was over-hyped. It's interesting, though, that the national map shows this storm reaching all the way to the Florida Gulf Coast, with another piece back to Missouri. They do seem to be easing up on our forecast a bit, although this is more of a northern storm than the one we had Thursday.

2. Had a very nice day out shopping, believe it or not. Mostly bookstores.

3. Update from the Dropkick Murphys. They have added more U.S. dates, but .  . .

We want to thank you all for your patience while we put together our 2008 St Patrick's Day shows. We know you're all waiting to hear about the Boston dates in particular so please rest assured we're doing our best to announce the shows as soon as we can. We're having problems finding the right venues to make 2008 another year to remember. If you are wanting to make travel plans we're working on shows in the Boston area for Friday March 14th, Saturday March 15th, Sunday March 16th & Monday March 17th. Please stay tuned as we're going to make an announcement soon. Before the holidays we promise!

They promised!

This is a real issue with the changes in the club situation in Boston. I thought the stadium show worked well last year, but they were still able to have club shows, too.

4. Review of a new translation of "Sir Gawain and the Green Knight."

5. This story on Earl Morrall is, to me, an example of a sports story that transcends sports. It's just a wicked good story.
