Friday evening: Catching up . . .
Jan. 11th, 2008 08:16 pm1.I feel a whole lot better than I did the other night. The garage realized the error of its ways and fixed the brakes, charging only for parts. My feelings on the SCA discussions has really leveled out. I got a nice note back from someone on the board, and I have been enjoying the discussions.
2. Oh, and I am back in the business again. The sports editor at the Glens Falls Post Star called me earlier in the week to tell me he had a "stringer" job open. I went up, expecting an interview, and wound up with the "Welcome aboard" information. "Strining means covering games part-time and getting paid by the game. (Back in the day, they paid per inch of copy, which they measured with string.) This is a good paper, and I will get to cover a lot of games out where I live, because it's fairly far from the office.
3. When you live with someone, you learn cool and neat things. In my time with
alethea_eastrid, I have learned a great deal about fine tea, folk music and yarn. I have also been turned on to audio books. I know I listened to "Tuesdays With Morrie" a long time ago, and
evilnicola will never forgive me for subjecting her to a JFK biography on the way to Pennsic one year. (I think it was Pennsic). I also have a 30-minute commute each way for work (just like in Massachusetts, but no highway and more cows). I listened to Liam Clancy's "The Mountain of the Women," a month or two ago, and I listened to the "FISH" book, the original parable that employers keep reading, trying to implement and forgetting about. I just finished "At the Altar of Speed," Leigh Montville's too-quickly done Dale Earnhardt biography. Comfortable book, because I knew a lot of the stories. A few interesting points, but this was probably a good abridged version to listen to. Alethea and I listened to "Hidden Kitchens" from the NPR show of the same name while traveling last weekend. I am also getting a lot of listening of the David Eddings' books she is listening to these days.
4. She has also taught me how to reserve books over the Intrawebs and have them delivered to her library. Hehehe. Today's batch included "SEND," the book about e-mail that
artisticphoenix recommended. I also get to hit the Glens Falls Library, the largest in the area, because I am downtown a lot. Yesterday, I found "Orbiting The Giant Hairball: A Corporate Fool's Guide to Surviving With Grace."
5. OK, that's great. The directions to King's and Queen's Fencing have been printed on good resume paper.
6. NFL Playoffs? Take the home team in each game.
7. Thanks to
soldiergrrrl, I can haz new desktop:

8. I hope to see a lot of you at King's and Queen's Fencing Championships tomorrow.
