We had a fairly uneventful trip and got to the hotel at about 8:30 p.m.

Got changed and hung out. I was the last to bed at midnight.

Great food for the Art Show reception.

Sitting in Starbucks right now, getting my coffee.

Ran into a bunch of folks last night.

Hotel is great. (Expensive, but that's why we are splitting a room). Very roomy.

My phone in in Salem, NY.

If you know A's number, call that. Otherwise I will check for messages,

More later.

I am writing, then posting as I can and cross-posting to my journal and Boskone.

So, 11:30 a.m., I have to go back up to the room, because the battery in my camera battery is dead. (I should know better with this battery, and I need a backup.

Fortunately, I am smart enough to bring the charger with me. Hopefully, I will get enough juice to take pictures at Seanan’s concert at noon. Before discovering the camera issue, I was in a TV panel, and we got to see Seanan (

Jennifer Pelland (

I have gotten to meet several folks I hadn’t met (including ron_newman) and renewed acquaintances with others. As usual, at a con, I find myself talking about the Society for Creative Anachronism a lot. ;)

A couple of quick complaints:

1. While I appreciate the free wireless in the lobby, as a hotel of this caliber, I would expect it everywhere. There’s no free access (or code available) in the concourse, and whether you connect by wireless or hardwire, it’s $9.95 a day in the room, etc. If Best Western can do free wireless . . .

2. Yes, I know it’s hard to run cons . . . but . . . First of all, 9 a.m. is a late opening for Con Suite anyway, and not opening until after 9:30 a.m. puts a real cramp in your style when you told a number of folks you would meet them in Con Suite at 9 a.m., when it was supposed to open. Even if the food’s not ready, we could come in and sit down.

But, if those are the only complaints 14 hours into the con, I am OK with that.

Good dealers’ room, including Auntie Arwen’s spices and fudge. Talked to Ed Dragonslayer there for a while.

The evil Larry is here with all the books I cannot afford (but I will buy some). Art show is good, too, and I hope to get a print or two.

More to come. Time to get ready for the concert.

[personal profile] jenwrites) was also on that panel. We had a great chat earlier, and I got her to autograph her short story in “Blood Baby” in “Apex: Best of 2006,” which I picked up from her.

[personal profile] cadhla) l cut loose on “Pushing Daisies,” and the fact that so many people told her so much about it already that she doesn’t want to watch it. (Her theory is that she doesn’t want to invest in a series until it’s been picked up for 12 more episodes, and she’s heard waaaaay too much already.

Sitting in Con Suite, drinking coffee and feeling a whole lot more tired than I should be.

I actually got a little more than seven hours of sleep last night, but I think I let myself go too long on a single muffin.

The hotel has reasonable food out in the lobby – a $5 sandwich for example – and I just gobbled one down (it was a turkey BLT).

We’re going to go to the No Name Seafood Restaurant at 5 p.m. It’s old-school and really, really good. It’s funny, because the Legal Seafood Test Kitchen – cutting edge – is on the way there.

Seanan’s concert was electric! Her voice is just amazing. She can go from torch-song husky to a high-pitched giggle in a second or two. There was a little sound-check trouble at t he start, but Seanan’s patter more than covered for it. She had several different people accompany her, and both Batya and Merav sang with her on several songs. Merav also took Vixy’s place on one song. (Yes, I am a geek).

As always happens at cons, I poked my head in a few panels, but didn’t have the attention span to sit through (A gnat, my daughter says, a gnat).

Again, David Weber is a popular guest of honor. His war panel, which followed the concert, was highly attended, but I wound up fan-boying with Seanan.

There was an interesting moment when I realized my wife, her birth mom and her aunt were all sitting there in the front row, knitting.

[personal profile] evilnicola sitting next to them, but I am unsure if she was knitting.
