Saturday evening: Just relaxing
Mar. 1st, 2008 07:15 pm1. Had a really good time at Northern Lights today, but I left before the judging was over. Worked gate with the lovely
jenphalian and
lbitw and saw their son,
sideshownate, too. Great event. Well-run by the talented Lady Frigga. Dayboard included venison and goose. Had a wonderful surprise and saw
bernina2000de, her son and several other Ruantallan folks. Had house guests last night -- Ardenia, Wolf and Albreda. I cooked, and they brought beer.
2. Really powerful video, "Amen," from Kid Rock.
3. The sound of winter in upstate New York is the sound of snowmobiles.
4. I don't know that I will ever watch the movie, but I am listening to the CD of Jon Krakauer's "Into the Wild." A lot of school have started using this book, which is about a young man who leaves his parents and law school behind, tramps around the country and eventually dies in the Alaska Wilderness. I remember reading the original article in "Outside," and I know I have read parts of the book before. I am also listening to "In the Company of Soldiers, in which Rick Atkinson -- one of our greatest military authors -- is embedded with a unit going to Kuwait even before the Iraq War started.
5. Speaking of books, how did this sneak up on me:

6. Oh, and fans of Jim Loewen should know that he has published an updated and revised edition of "Lies My Teacher Told Me -- Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong. ," a book I recommend everyone, especially teachers, read.
