Moo!

As instructed:
1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview me" or something of an equally pithy nature.
2. I will respond by asking you 5 questions of a very personal nature. Be warned!
3. You will update your LJ with the answers to the questions, please?
4. You will include this and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them 5 questions.

Oh, and feel free to interview me -- one and all.

;)

1. Welcome to [livejournal.com profile] hascouf.

2. After having a horrid day yesterday (notice the lack of post), I decided to buck up, go in and do my job. I was solitary in my office for nearly four hours and got a lot done. I slowed down a little in the afternoon, but I felt better about things.

3. I gotta say, that discussion about Hillary Clinton as vice president was terrific! Solid, polite political discussion.

I stayed out of it to let it flow.

I posted that assuming she did want it, which I believe she does.

I think there's an intimation that if he doesn't pick her, her folks won't vote for him.

I don't want any part of her. She is toxic. She should aim to be this generation's Ted Kennedy (though I am less than impressed so far, largely because she has been campaigning for most of her Senate career.

I really don't see a place for her in administration. But someone mentioned Supreme Court? I like her politics, and it would keep her out of the White House.

I do see now that she is going to endorse Barack Saturday.

4. From John Scalzi:

Creating a new word

The word:
“Nerdgassing”

Definition: The venting nerds emit when some (often minor) detail of a book/movie/TV show/comic book/etc either conflicts with canon and/or handwaves through some some suspect science.

Example One: “In the third show of the second season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Data clearly says that the Glorithian flagship was constructed in orbit around that planet Norgar, but then in the fifteenth show of the sixth season, it’s said it was constructed in the Buterian space docks! How do you explain that, hmmm?”*

Example Two: “Ringworld is unstable! Ringworld is unstable!”

Secondary definition: What happens after too many Cheetos and Mountain Dew.

5. Liam-style now includes something picture-like.

1. What one thing about the SCA continues to make you grind your teeth in frustration?

The ineffective way it is run from the top. Customer-service should be much more important in this organization. There should be more transparency from the Board of Directors, and the main office should be relocated and be much friendlier.

 2. If you could travel back in time, what time period would   you visit first and why.

Tough question. The early 1960s, I think. Presidential race. Kennedy's inauguration, plenty of seats at Fenway.

(I know, you expected much earlier, but the field at Agincourt's not at all gonna be like the movie. I would be scared to go back)

3. Of all the cars you've owned in your life, which one was your favorite.

Another tough one. Probably the 1967 Plymouth Valiant with the cursed back seat.

4. Do you play the lottery?

When I can. I plan for winning all the time.

5. What year did you first attend Pennsic?

1993. Camped in Royal years two later with Bjorn and Morgen. Were you there that year? That's when I met H., his dad and a squire.

1) Other than SCA, have you ever done any other reenacting?

No. As a 10-year-old Mom dressed me in something from the 1920s or so -- purple vest and bowler hat -- and I got made fun of.

2) What got you interested in teaching?

I was working as a sportwriter, which meant mostly second shift and working every Friday, every Saturday and every other Sunday. The girls were maybe 3 and 6.

My wife asked if I would consider another profession. We had taken an Education class together in college.

I got the Masters in two years, one working full-time and one working part-time, and I fell in love with teaching.

3) If you could make one suggestion to the SCA Board of Directors and they HAD to do it, what would it be?

I will be serious. (Fire Renee is what pops into my head)

Vote yourselves out of office.

Create a new board with one elected representative from each kingdom.

 4) What is your favorite movie of all time and why?

My friends are chuckling.

Animal House is the greatest movie ever made. I lived in a house like that, it's timing is perfect, Belushi is brilliant and it's a moral tale.

I am also very, very high on Henry V, Casablanca, Bull Durham, The Departed and For Love of the Game.

(Oh, [livejournal.com profile] evilnicola? Forget Paris!!!!)

 5) If you could travel back  in time, meet yourself when you were a teenager, and say one thing to  him, what would it be?

Quit drinking now, you stupid fuck.

1) What do you think is the most important quality in a Peer?

Humility. (followed by common sense and a sense of humor)

2) What was your vigil like?

We had waaay too much food!!

I knew how much my friends loved me!

It was very quick, but I got a lot of advice later, too. And people sent letters.

I was surprised and humbled.

During the elevation, someone argued about something I had done. ;)

3) If you could make one rule for relationships (friendly or more so) that could never be broken what would it be?

Communicate honestly. (And never do anything to your partner that you would not want done to you. And think hard about what you do).

4) How do you keep gossiping from bothering you?

It bothers the hell out of me. ;)

If I can, I try to set the person straight. (I swear I never kissed Duke Morguhn no matter what he says_.

If not, I eventually tune it out.

5) What is your favorite color?

Gules.
