1. Utterly exhausted. Drove well over 100 miles today, delivering Mini-Grant checks. Drove well into Adirondack Park to Johnstown, NY. For those of you who know the Northern Region War Camp, it's about 20 miles north of there, but not as far as Coldwood. I was at the Cornell Cooperative Extension office across from the Northern Region War Camp site, too. Gorgeous day. I hope we get four just like it or better.

2. Came home and cooked the goat with garlic, onions, spices and Raspberry Vinagrette from a local farm store.

Hehehe, I said "Cooked the goat."

3. On my first listen-through of Great Big Sea's "Fortune's Favour." There is a lot of music on there. And a lot of variety. It was nice to actually hear the band go "Straight Hell," because I have been listening to Alan Doyle's solo version. Last year, at the Paradise (is that where it was), [livejournal.com profile] alethea_eastrid, [livejournal.com profile] evilnicola and I got to hear some of those songs live for the first time. I know there were other folks there, too.

4. Trying to keep up with the Gloucester "pregnancy pact" and the Neil Entwhistle trial has been fun. Insane stuff.

5. Bhakail Baronial Investiture this weekend. Who is going to be there?

6. The East has youth fencing! Congrats to my dear friend [livejournal.com profile] tonypatriquin and everyone else involved.

7. In memory of George Carlin:

Teddy Cullinane: [broadcasting on the radio] I've never seen Crash so angry. And frankly, sports fans, he used a word that's a no-no with umpires.

Millie: [Annie snaps off the radio] Crash must've called the guy a cocksucker.

Annie: Mmmmm. How romantic.

Bull Durham, Best quote movie ever, or is Animal House?

Rules: Post 5 things on your lj that you have done and you think that no one else on your lj has done.

1. Taught my kid, tried to throw her out of class and pointed out that I couldn't, because "truth is a defense," and the kids agreed that, "Yes, Mr. T., you *were* being a prick.

2. Was in the press box the day Carlton Fisk returned to Fenway wearing the No. 72 and a White Sox jersey. Also, was in the press box at the end of the "longest game in professional baseball history."

From wikipedia:

The game began on Saturday, April 18, 1981, and continued through the night and into Easter morning before finally being suspended. Although most leagues have a curfew rule that would have suspended the game, the rule book that the home plate umpire had that night did not contain one. So the teams continued playing until the president of the league, Harold Cooper, was finally reached on the phone sometime after 3 a.m. Finally at 4:09, at the end of the 32nd inning, the game was stopped and would be resumed at a later date.

The game resumed on the evening of Tuesday, June 23, the next time the Red Wings were in town. A sellout crowd and news media from around the world were on hand, partly because the major leagues were on strike at the time. On that evening, it took just one inning and 18 minutes to settle the game, with Pawtucket's Dave Koza driving in Marty Barrett for the winning run in the bottom of the 33rd.

3. Was the subject of a college Journalism Department meeting because, as the letter said, "Bill, you are the editor-in-chief of the school paper, and you don't come to class."

4. Was a state National Honor Society adviser-of the-year and was one of five finalists for the James Rynearson Award for national adviser-of the-year. Also, helped my kids win three national Outstanding Service Project awards.

5. Had a dear friend write the following about me in a letter of recommendation:

I met Bill when I was 15, functioning as a runner for the sportswriters
sitting in the press box during an American Legion baseball tournament.
Never has fetching hot dogs and soda been more rewarding or educational.

Bill was working as a sportswriter at the Norwich (Conn.) Bulletin at the
tournament. He wrote a column about the delicious hot dogs at Palmer Field
in Middletown, CT. That's when I realized what I wanted to do in life: write
about sports with humor and irreverence.

I watched Bill work the crowd during that tournament. I've seen him work a
room like nobody else. He broke many stories first at the Bulletin and in
later years at the New London (Conn.) Day because he is the quintessential
people person.

Mike is now one of the best sports columnists I know.

6. I want to say, "Saw Great Big Sea three times in four nights and got married on one of the days of that run," but that's ho-hum. [livejournal.com profile] alethea_eastrid has done it, too.
