Tuesday evening: Fall is coming . . . .
Sep. 16th, 2008 06:57 pm1. Let's see, frost warnings in the counties just north of us, freeze warnings for the counties north of them. A flock of more than a dozen turkeys on a hillside on the way home. Small pumpkins nestled along their vines, and big pumpkins being delivered to the farm market down the street. Leave keep a'turnin' Now, if it wasn;t sunny and near 70 . . .
2. U.S. Paralympic Rugby: Better than the Dream Team! I so love the New York Times for following this.
3. Thanks to
oaken_glen, I was alerted to Cake Wrecks and this little gem:

4. Anyone else here going to see Great Big Sea Saturday at the Celtic 2000 Festival at the Altamont (NY) County Fairgrounds?
5. I have to go to Ithaca for a conference, and I can bring my wife along if she wants to come. Leave it to
alethea_eastrid to discover that the Finger Lakes Sheep and Wool Festival is happing Sunday, the day we'd get there.
6. Top 50 Places To Have Beer in America: 2006.
Count me at 12. I should have gone to the Toronado when we were in San Francisco, and I almost stopped at Great Lakes. I desperately want to get to Three Floyds.
I have been to:
# 1 = The Moan and Dove (Amherst, MA)
# 2 = The Publick House (Brookline, MA)
# 5 = The Map Room (Chicago, IL)
# 12 = Mahar's Public Bar (Albany, NY)
# 18 = Monk's Cafe (Philadelphia, PA)
# 24 = The Alchemist Pub & Brewery (Waterbury, VT)
# 25 = The Linwood Grill (Boston, MA)
# 28 = Ludwig's Garten (Philadelphia, PA)
# 31 = Willimantic Brewing Co. / Main Street Café (Willimantic, CT)
# 38 = The Great Lost Bear (Portland, ME)
# 39 = Tria (Philadelphia, PA)
# 46 = Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery (Minneapolis, MN)
I was a regular at the Publick House. I am a semi-regular at Mahar's. Two of the bars on here were the result of booty calls. All the Philly places were visited in one day, mostly while my wife was at a yarn store. I do know #25 is no longer in business. If you could only go to one -- and not for beer alone -- I would recommend The Alchemist.
