1. A big cuddly Liamverse welcome to ~2bomnipotent, ~tessathehuntres and [livejournal.com profile] deyo.

2. It's sunny and in the high 60s here in the North Country. Still plenty of leaves, but we are into maroons and dark golds. It would be amazingly wonderful if the weather held for another nine days until Crown! Gas is at $3.09 at the lowest and dropping.

3. Want to see me fighting the good fight? Head on over to TeachersNet. You will figure out who I am rather rapidly. I dislike the site sometimes, because it allows anonymous posting.

4. Does anyone else wife send them things like this? She then handed me chocolate-chip cookies.

5. This is a major 70s geek thing. Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show did a song called "Cover of the Rolling Stone" back in the 70s. It is a paen to note being pictured on the cover. There is apparently a new show called "Life On Mars," which bought a warp-around cover ad (RS does this) and on the front was a caricature of three of the band members and the line "What's-Their-Name Makes the Cover." I guess the cop show is set in the early 70s, maybe with a guy from the future. What's odd, is that the real magazine had articles on Jackson Browne and Bruce Springsteen, just like 1973.

6. If you pre-order Guitar Hero World Tour from GameSpot, you get the secret code to unlock all 84 songs. Immediate gratification much?

7. I missed the accreditation visit, which is a good thing, but the team nailed it. My old school.

Edited to move this over from [livejournal.com profile] themajordomo.

1. I love my friends.

Yesterday was a very, very long day.

I got home at about 8:30 p.m., but there was a package waiting for me -- a package from a friend I made just a couple of weeks ago, thanking me for being "so nice." Me? "So nice?" Who would think it?

My friend works for www.38studios.com.

The hat was simple enough -- a black ballcap with the mascot -- Munch -- on it and "38 Studios".com" on the back.

But the shirt . . . white  . . . gray and black logo . . . and signed in Sharpie by the three founders of the company.

You might have heard of them . . . Todd McFarlane, R.A. Salvatore and, oh, Curt Schilling.

I was bouncing and squeeing.

2. It's only two months until I dive into Lake George, and you can bet it ain't gonna be in the high 60s that day.

Please, please, please consider making a donation here or join our team, Agni Dentati, here.

Distribute as you wish.

3. That John Scalzi, he can write like a writing thing:

And the guy was right, because Caine, and Heroes Die, was a heaping plate of kickass kickassery with a side of kickass sauce.

4. The sliced turkey breast is just not supposed to be pink in spots.

5. Ahhh, Natalie Merchant, Unplugged, singing "Because The Night."

6. Yummmm. Reheated spanikopita, third-day beef stew and fresh, toasted Italian bread. I love dinner.

7. I will not be commenting on the debate, the stock market or the baseball playoffs at this time.

Here's one my definitions of a hero: Someone who is willing to risk his job and his vocation to do what he knows in his heart is right.

Here is a picture of my new hero.

LA Times
Father Geoffrey Farrow is a longtime Catholic priest who revealed recently that he is gay and opposed to Proposition 8, the November ballot initiative that would overturn the California Supreme Court's decision earlier this year allowing same-sex marriage. As a result, Farrow has been stripped of his job as a parish priest in Fresno, including his salary and health benefits.

I talk a good game. I am passionate about various causes. I don't think I would possibly have the guts to do what he did.

Here's his blog. (Of couse he has a blog.). Read it. Great stuff.

Sometimes I get so caught up in the day-to-day rush of work and worries that I forget some of the things that really matter.

Sometimes I spend my free time go-go-going, run-run-running and do-do-doing that I forget the people around me.

I have had a number of remembers, just in the last few days alone, that there are people who really think I am special, and others who are totally convinced that I am one of the nicest guys around.

Me? I don't often feel all that special, and sometimes I feel like I am simply a prick.

But who am I to argue with those who love me or like me a lot?

I need to take those things and bundle them up and keep them for the future.

I want to thank everyone who has reached out in ways large and small over the last week or so. There have been a lot of you.

Thank you.

I appreciate you all.
