I get the feeling that the 260-reply length of the original post is scaring some newcomers off.

Oh, it's just find for those of us who have been in the fray for the whole 21 hours it's been up. ;)

I thought I would open a second thread, in case people have new ideas or want to bring soem specific discussions over here.

I must say I am thoroughly enjoying this. Between this thread and the the EK Garb thread, I feel I have learned a great deal more about the SCA.

Please feel free to invite folks over for this discussion. It's unlocked.

What have *I* learned so far?

I think one of the great lessons I learned is that I need to remember that there are fighters who show up, set up the lists, carry hay bales, marshal, fight and leave.

That's a whole different world from "show up, fight and leave."

I think I discovered what need to be more encouraging in getting folks to do things (as we do with garb).

I think we need to look at things from each other's points of view.

I think that Alys -- and others -- have reminded us that that's an incredible amount of work that takes place away from events.
