I have been having some concerns with the blogs on the Albany Times-Union. Mostly newspaperish stuff.

But I about swallowed my tongue when I saw the blog entry about Homo Milk. by the guy who runs the cool new beer blog.

I get the gist of the column, but I was really offended to see the word on the website of a fairly well-respected newspaper. I just didn't think the piece was that funny.

Come to find out, the paper has "different standards" for its blogs.

I also found out, and I am not sure if it makes any difference, that the writer is gay.

What think you, readers?

No mainstream media was saying it, but several gay and conservative sources were saying that the California Supreme Court was going to release its decision on the Proposition 8 lawsuit tomorrow (Thursday).

Now there is a report from one of those sites that San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom asked for a delay because tomorrow is the 30th anniversary of the "White Night" riots that followed the conviction of Dan White of voluntary manslaughter instead of murder in the killings of Harvey Milk and George Moscone.

Either way, I am going to say this now.

Assuming the California decision comes before the New York Senate vote, the New York Senate will make the same decision that the California Supreme Court does.

There will be a huge push,  either way.

1. My boss has been out of the office for the last couple of days, but I think tomorrow I will get the official word that I will still have an office to go to on July 1. (Our grant ends two years early, on June 30). I will be doing summer youth employment, checking on the kids and the employers, along with some other employment-type stuff, thanks to the stimulus money. The organization I work for does a variety of things, including unemployment. I am still on the job hunt, especially for a teaching job, but this takes some of the pressure off. One of the jobs I am going after carries the title of "Impact Director" at a non-profit. I feel like I am going to be guiding meteors in.

2. Thanks to the wonder of the Internet, Calontir Trim expects to be at War of the Roses. Drix, [livejournal.com profile] trimguy, posted that he was in Blacksburg, Va., visiting family after Aethelmearc War Practice, and that his plans for Trimaris Coronation fell through. A couple of posts, a couple if IMs and a couple of phone calls later, he's headed toward Mariaville. Yay!

3. [livejournal.com profile] naominovick posts a little about her trip to Australia to research Book No. 6 in the Temeraire series and points out that No. 5, "Victory of Eagles" is out in paperback. Buy iy. Buy all of them.

Her editor has more details on Book No. 6.

4. And in today's facebook mail:

I had to say hello since you were one of my favorite teachers! Although I did not apply myself and wasn't the best student, at least I have become a successful adult! lol. My hubby and I just moved to Maine 2 yrs ago, and bought our home in the country last year. Loving Maine! Anyways, nice to see you on here:) [Name]  Class of "95.

5. We almost had black, furry mittens this afternoon.

So the cats were not happy with the litter box. To be honest, it looked fine to us.

So they opened the new bag of litter, spread it all over the cat/sewing room and used it.

"Mittens!" my wife said. "Mittens!"

6. I have just been referred to, in an LJ post by [livejournal.com profile] trimguy, as "The Accordian from Concordia." I have no words.

7. I don't tell my friends this nearly enough, but I do appreciate you all.

1. There will be a silent auction to benefit the Royal Travel Fund at Ducal Challenge June 6.

We are actively looking for good auction items. If you are coming to Roses and have something that's not too bulky, please bring it and see me.

Also, one thing that tends to go well is gift certificates for lessons from knights, fencing dons, ludicrous bowmen, artisans, etc. Even from people like you and me.

If you have a skill that you would be willing to teach someone for an hour or two at, say, Northern Region War Camp, I would love to hear from you.

Or if you want to cook for four or eight people at a specific event, that's cool.

Other ideas welcome. (Out of kingdom folks, Pennsic always works, too)

It's always better if you specify the event.

2. Master Andrixos of Calontir Trim has had a change of travel plans and will be at War of the Roses this weekend, not Trimaris Coronation. (Left turn at Albuquerque?).

If you are not going to be there and would like me to pick up some Blue Tyger/Pelican/Bayeaux Tapestry trim, contact me privately.
