1. The Liamverse opens its arms and welcomes [livejournal.com profile] antoniodicapizi and [livejournal.com profile] evilfionn.

2. Yeah, OK, so not the best of the 82 or so weeks I have been working at the Washington County EOC. Maybe not *the* worst, but close. Long, too, and I have a two-hour dinner to attend tomorrow night. But I get Monday as a Flex Day. Yee-ha!

3. My wife is currently dying of the cute, watching the wolf cub being taught to howl.

4. I didn't see much of it, but I am amazed the Red Sox swept the Yankees and are 8-0 on the season against them.

5. Still no progress in the mess that is the New York state legislature.

6. I am on the last of 18 discs of "The Race Beat," an amazingly comprehensive history of the coverage of the Civil Riughts movement, reaching back to the 1920s or so. I could never have read the whole book, but the CD was great (especially, because I spent nearly eight hours on the road yesterday. Another, even longer, book on CD -- David Halberstam's "The Coldest Winter," which is about the Korean War, is up next.

7. From "The Quiet Man."

Mary Kate Danaher: Could you use a little water in your whiskey?

Michaleen Flynn: When I drink whiskey, I drink whiskey; and when I drink water, I drink water.

Boston Globe

Someday in the distant future, there might just be another Yaz in the Red Sox outfield.

In the 36th round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft Thursday afternoon, the Red Sox selected St. John's Prep (Danvers) outfielder Michael Yastrzemski.

The last name, of course, isn't just familiar in New England. It's legendary. He is the grandson of Red Sox icon and Baseball Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski.

The rest of the story.

The school he played at is one town over from Peabody, where I taught and where evilnicola graduated from.
