Hello, all.

1. If you are going to be able to bakje cookies, brownies, make candy, etc., for the Travel Fund sale this weekend at 12th Night, please drop me a note by Wednday telling me what you are bringing and how much you expect to bring.

Please bring a card that indicates the ingredients to the event.

Also, if you can donate a box of large (gallon) zip-lick bags, that would be great.

I am also still looking for folks to do a one hour to 90-minute shift at the table.

2. I'd also like to hear from you if you are planning to make something for the "By Our Own Hands" auction for Birka.

I would like responses on that by Sunday, Jan. 24.

I have had a couple of questions about this auction.

While it is designed to show off the artisans and craftsfolk of the kingdom, items to *not* have to be specifically period. Knitted Mongol hats, for instance, are fine., as is beef jerky.

If it some that can be documented  in any way, that would be great.

Please include a sheet with your name and contact information and any documentation or other details with your donation.

Liam's Favorite SCA Songs

I am working on my classes for 12th Night.

I have finished "How to Write People in For Awards," which is based on something I have posted here before and has some similarities to the excellent post about the topic at the East Kingdom Wiki at the EK Web Site.

I am also teaching "Liam's Favorite SCA Songs." I am not singing.

Here's the intro:

Introduction: For me, one of the most glorious things about the SCA is its music. Personally, I am drawn to modern songs written about the SCA or period events. Other folks focus on period songs, which are cool in their own ways. Today, I will be playing and talking about some of my favorite songs.
 
I was first introduced to these songs by a bard at Pennsic who stopped in our camp and sang “Flower of The Desert,” a song about the kingdom of Atenveldt. You’ll notice it’s the first song I am going to play. I also became steeped in musical tradition of Calontir after visiting Lilies War, then singing with them in their camp and on the way to and from the battlefield.

Finally, I became drawn to SCA music CD’s starting with Jarl Thorson handing me Master Hector of the Black Heights’ “Red Album” while in Ruantallan. I was sick and couldn’t go to the pre-revel, so I listened to it several times. I started collecting other SCA CDs and was lucky enough to marry Alethea, and she brought even more music in.

Now I budget for at least four or five CDs at Pennsic each year.

After the cut are the 25 songs I have together right now. I know I will not get to all of them, and there are others I don't have. ("Cheer" is among them). As far as I know there are no extant recordings of "Born On The Listfield" (by request) and "Shag Foreign Fighters."

I would love some commentary and thoughts.

What do these songs say about the way I view the SCA? What songs would you put in there?

No shit, there she was, Lady Katerinka Lvovicha of the Two Kingdoms, newly apprenticed to Master Ingus Moen, performing after Northshield's 12th Night.

She was reciting her skaldic verse, "Lay of Liam." 

Afterwards, 1,500 miles from here, Dahrien (of the Whiskey Bards) looks up and says: "Is that about Liam *St. Liam*?"
