1. And the temperature has risen into the teens.

Partly cloudy is all we get for the next five days.

2. I know my wife loves me.

She send me links like Serious Beer Pairings: Chocolate and Beer for Valentine's Day."

3. The Boston Globe tells us there's good news on the unemployment rate.

WASHINGTON—The unemployment rate dropped unexpectedly in January to 9.7 percent, while employers shed 20,000 jobs, according to a report that offered hope the economy will add jobs soon.

And, apparently, we're in "The Great Recession."

The department also revised its past employment estimates to show that job losses from the Great Recession have been much worse than previously stated. The economy has shed 8.4 million jobs since the downturn began in December 2007, up from a previous figure of 7.2 million.

That's the most jobs lost in any recession, as a percent of total employment, since World War II.

I am just not gonna comment.

4. More from The Globe, this time sad news about Nomar. I always hoped we'd get him back.

Nomar Garciaparra was one of the best and most popular players in Red Sox team history before he was traded on July 31, 2004. Now the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting "it's widely expected that he will retire." Garciaparra returned to Boston in 2009 for the first time in a visitor's uniform -- as a member of the Oakland Athletics. "I love 'em. I love the way they treated me," Garciaparra said of Red Sox fans during his return.

He was so much classier -- and better for the ballclub -- than Manny.

5. Not a lot on the job search today. Update over at Wordpress.

6. Connections in the Liamverse extend to fictional characters.

I have already noted that one of my fraternity brothers, Buffy Briggs, was involved in the invasion of Panama, and wrote a book on it. After watching an NCIS episode, I now know that Marine sniper Leroy Jethro Gibbs was also there.

7. If you are a folkie, and you live in New York's Greater Capitol Region, you should know that Canadian folksinger James Keelaghan is playing at Cafe Lena in Saratoga Springs this Sunday.
