I simply wanted to observe that yesterday was a particularly amazing day in baseball. This bodes well for the rest of the season.
Can today be even better? That would start with the Red Sox doing something unusual and winning.
Some of yesterday wass not pretty (see No. 3 and No. 4), but it is what it is.
1. Really, the most amazing thing, so to speak, was the Mets and Cardinals not scoring through 18 innings and the Mets winning, 2-1, in 20., ona sacrifice fly.
2. And that happening on the same day that Ubaldo Jimenez used his fastball to beat the Braves, 4-0, in the first no-hitter in Colorado Rockies history.
3. The Devil Rays beat the Red Sox twice. Enough about that.
4. The Yankees looked, well, fricking scary in pounding Texas, 7-3 after leading 7-0. The Yankees are 8-3, and as much as it pains me to say it, have developed another Murderers' Row.
5. Tim Lincecum of the Giants moved to 3-0 after beating Los Angeles, 9-0. His ERA ix 0.90. He had three hits and three RBI Saturday. He has struck out 24 in 30 innings and has given up only 13 hits. I love this kid!
6. Pittsburgh wion its last at-bat for the third time in 11 games and the second in as many nights. Garret Jones hit a huge, two-out, two-strike single to beat the Red, 5-4. The Pirates have been outscored this season, 72-48, but are 605.
