1. I am addicted to the World Cup already. Although I am gonna do crappy on my picks, because I didn't pick enough draws. I am fascinated that the officials took a clear goal away from Mexico, which may well help South Africa qualify for the round of 16.

The nice thing about a World Cup bracket (Yes, I am in a World Cup pool), is that unlike the NCAA Tournament, blowing a couple picks early does not hurt you.

I am not happy, however, about the stupid horns the fans in South Africa are blowing. It sounds like there are bees in my TV.

2. NPR is broadcasting live from the Bonnaroo Festival. Here is the schedule.

3. I will be writing for the Pennsic Independent again. This is the first time in a while I have been on staff, but I need the money, and I enjoy it.

I am always willing to entertain story ideas and suggestions.

4. For a variety of reasons, I am now subscribing to various kingdom mailing lists. And while the East Kingdom has managed two dozen posts on pickle juice as a method for preventing muscle cramps, Atlantia's Merry Rose leads the league in dumb right now. The topic: Not doing a Cub Scout demo because of the homophobic policies of the national organization. Best posts: The ones point out how many events are held in Boy Scout camps.

5. I cannot quite understand why I have such a visceral, negative reaction to the phrase "stick jock." It's the same reaction I have to "authenticity police, "Garb ****" and the "all peers are asshats" crowd. I think it's a stereotype, and personally, I think that it's our role to help folks who might fit that stereotype to understand the SCA as a whole and how to play in it. Of course, I come from the "We are all chatelaines" school of though and I take no end of shit for that.

6. What pisses me off more than that? People on polling lists who blatantly disregard the sanctity of the polling list by discussing who is one them or repeating why someone opposes a candidate. You can argue with my on "stick jock" and "troll" if you want. This one is cut-and-dried.

7. I highly, highly recommend the two "Hedge Knight" graphic novels from George R.R. Martin.
