I really understand baseball. I know the nuances. I understand when a pitcher tells me he went fastball, away and low to get the batter to ground out to second or pop to right. (Of course I chuckle, knowing the batter instead his a line drive into right to win the game).
I understand football and wrestling to roughly the same extent, and I know basketball well, even rugby.
But soccer? I see the flow sometimes, I understand "creating space," and I can see plays develop. But the nuances, not so much.
I love how ESPN has embraced expert announcers, too. (That translates to letting guys with accents, who really know the game, work.) There's one guy whose voice is a ringer for Sean Connery's, and I adore Ruid Guillet. Man knows the game.

6. I have a job interview Thursday. I would be evaluating and mentoring student teachers from the College of St. Joseph in Rutland, Vt. I also have another advertising section writing gig from a local weekly newspaper coming up.
7. All of a sudden, the Red Sox have won six straight and are a half-game put of first, along with two other teams. I love baseball.
