1. Since I whacked Clinton Portis for his commentary, I want to send a thubs-up to Justin Tuck for his:

"Just be respectful," Giants defensive lineman Justin Tuck said to the Bergen Record. "Some guys might not like it [women in the locker room] but it's not that big a deal. For me, I've got six sisters. I know how I would want them to be treated. Not like that."

That's from this link, which was posted in another thread by [livejournal.com profile] beckishadow.

2. I need to acknowledge that Mr. Portis.has apologized.

In his statement, Portis says he "was wrong to make the comments" and that he respects the job reporters do. The Redskins say they "will take the necessary steps" to remind players about acting in a professional manner.

The rest of the CBS News story is all re-hash.

I am not gonna question the apology.

3. Some of you have expressed the idea that no one oughta be in the locker room except players and team personnel.

Gregg Doyel of CBS Sports agrees with you.

4. A number of people have asked me if men are allowed in women's locker rooms.

I said I would check. They are.

Dan Steinberg, whose DC Blog is right out from on this, examines the topic and quotes a colleague.

The WNBA -- the playoffs are going on right now -- has the same rules as the NBA. Open locker rooms at designated times. In the NCAA tournament, the same rules govern both men and women's locker rooms -- they're both open at specific times. During the regular season, NCAA institutions can make their own rules about locker room availability, but during the tournament the NCAA has a uniform policy. When Stanford played UConn in last April's championship, if you wanted to see how devastated Jayne Appel was after her terrible shooting night, you needed to be in the locker room. I was there. So were my male colleagues.

5. Actually, another one for Steinberg and another bozo, this one former Redskins' player Dexter Manley.

That's all here.

6. If you have any interest in what sportswriters are thinking, check out this thread. I did not get to it until it was eight pages long.

7. Completely unrelated, but the University of Tennessee docked its men's basketball coach $1.5 million for lying during an NCAA investigation. The link is here.
