Why are you here?

No, I don’t mean that in the metaphysical sense. I mean that in the “Why do you read my LiveJournal sense.”

Gradually, as I have been using facebook more and more, I have been posting here less and less. I still read my entire friends list and comment too much. ;) But my Liam-style lists seem to wind up being parceled out an item or two at a time.

LiveJournal has also been a place for me to do a couple of things. One is the Liam-Style post, which is a meme of its ownself,. Another is to start SCA or other discussions. When I start an SCA discussion, I will also sometimes seed one on SCA as well.

I’ll also post news and tidbits about me and others and also philosophize on occasion.

Facebook is where I am posting most of the “breaking” news, like links to articles I write, Polar Plunge requests, short commentaries and links to news articles. Take today, for instance. I did post a series of links to the discussion involving [livejournal.com profile] illadore here, but I posted many other things on facebook.

I also use twitter, though not nearly as much. There is a core group of close friends and family who communicate mostly by twitter and for maybe a half-dozen people that is the easiest way for me to get information to and from them. The other reason I use it is for breaking news and sports. I occasionally cover minor league hockey, and it’s the best place to get that info. The newspaper I work at also uses twitter, so I can stay on top of things that way.

In terms of numbers, I have about 640 friends on LJ, 1,100 on facebook and maybe 125 on twitter. I would guess that the vast majority of LJ friends (500+) are SCA-related, with the rest being other fandoms or folks I have run into in various places. The facebook number is much higher, because it also includes people I went to high school with, kids I have taught over the years who are now out of high school, people in the Glens Falls area, newspaper people and the ubiquitous SCA folks. I have almost no locals or non-SCA, real-world friends on LJ. The twitter folks (and I run a personal account and a professional account) are a mixtures of SCA friends and people from the newspaper, sports and brewing industries. (Though the brewing folks are being phased out.)

I have also dabbled in a couple of blogs, neither of which is currently being sustained.

So here's my question: What should I do with LJ? What kinds of things do you want to read about when you come here or expect when it pops up on your friends' list.
