Ideas for classes . . .
Mar. 10th, 2011 11:21 amOne fo the most beautiful women I know asked me if I could start posting to LJ again.
OK, here we go.
I am planning on teaching at Arts & Arrows, at other local events and possibly at Pennsic.
I love teaching.
I am envisioning something of a newcomers' track, but the stuff I will be talking about will be applicable to everyone.
Here are some of the ideas we have batted around. I would really, really like some input.
Which of these classes would you attend? Do you have suggestions on what to include.
I am thinking 45-50 minute classes.
SCA 101: For fairly new folks. An overview of many of the topics that follow. This would be the first class of the day.
SCA titles and forms of address.
SCA awards: How do people get them? How do I help people get them?
Peerage 101: What's a peerage?
SCA Geography: East Kingdom and Society wide.
SCA Events/Wars: So tell me about Pennsic. What are these other big wars? What happens at Crown, Coronation, 12th Night and champions' events.
SCA "Filk:;" One of my passions in the SCA is songs and performers. I see this as sort of an overview of non-period SCA music. It will include playing songs from Heather Dale, Hector of the Black Height, etc.
Who are these people? Ten Scadians you really oughta know about. You may hear names like Master Ernst or Duke Finnvar or Master Tearloch and not know much about them. I could probably do several variations on this: People in the East, People in the Society, People who have passed on.
Common courtesy in the SCA.
Behind the Thrones: What it's like to live through a royal reign. How do you get to retain for the royals.
Student/teacher relationships in the SCA. Why would I want to be a protege/squire/apprentice?
That's a start. Please chime in.
Other ideas?
