One fo the most beautiful women I know asked me if I could start posting to LJ again.

OK, here we go.

I am planning on teaching at Arts & Arrows, at other local events and possibly at Pennsic.

I love teaching.

I am envisioning something of a newcomers' track, but the stuff I will be talking about will be applicable to everyone.

Here are some of the ideas we have batted around. I would really, really like some input.

Which of these classes would you attend? Do you have suggestions on  what to include.

I am thinking 45-50 minute classes.

SCA 101: For fairly new folks. An overview of many of the topics that follow. This would be the first class of the day.

SCA titles and forms of address.

SCA awards: How do people get them? How do I help people get them?

Peerage 101: What's a peerage?

SCA Geography: East Kingdom and Society wide.

SCA Events/Wars: So tell me about Pennsic. What are these other big wars? What happens at Crown, Coronation, 12th Night and champions' events.

SCA "Filk:;" One of my passions in the SCA is songs and performers. I see this as sort of an overview of non-period SCA music. It will include playing songs from Heather Dale, Hector of the Black Height, etc.

Who are these people? Ten Scadians you really oughta know about. You may hear names like Master Ernst or Duke Finnvar or Master Tearloch and not know much about them. I could probably do several variations on this: People in the East, People in the Society, People who have passed on.

Common courtesy in the SCA.

Behind the Thrones: What it's like to live through a royal reign. How do you get to retain for the royals.

Student/teacher relationships in the SCA. Why would I want to be a protege/squire/apprentice?

That's a start. Please chime in.

Other ideas?

1. It's been a while, so I would like to welcome the following people:

Some of you may have been welcomed already, so welcome again!

[livejournal.com profile] xandra_rozina , [livejournal.com profile] byrontengu , [livejournal.com profile] dawnstar , [livejournal.com profile] kragore ,[livejournal.com profile] petronella, [livejournal.com profile] attilia_auborne , and [livejournal.com profile] spoon_o_doom .

2. If you are popping in an reading on occasion, feel free to friend me. I don't luck much, but I like to read other folks' journals.

3. My life is like a herd of kittens lately. Since the beginning of December, I have been running a small-town weekly in Whiitehall, NY, doing the writing, photography and layout.

Here's the paper.

As of this week, because our editor is out sick (fucking cancer)m I am now the acting editor for Manchester Newspapers and running three papers. I will be doing editing, assigning and layout and will be able to write occasionally as well.

I am learning Photoshop and InDeisgn, so it's been a very good thing.

4. I am using facebook more and more, but upon on the request of a dear friend, I am going to try to post more here. I am Bill Toscano on facebook, the one with the cally cap photo, not the UMinnesota professor or the gay actor.

5. In terms of the SCA, I haven't really been to much of anything since Birka. Maybe one local event, but maybe that was before Birka.

I am planning to try to get out more. With the reporting job, I had been working more weekends. That should ease up with the editors' job.

6. I have been listening to a great book on CD -- Leigh Montville's "The Mysterious Montague," about a famous golfer form the 1930s. Parts of it are set in the Adirondacks. I have also started the "Tour of the Merrimack" space opera series, which a friend loaned me.

7. The Castleton State women's hockey team did a breast cancer fund-raiser for at least the second straight year.

They played in pink jerseys, then auctioned them off. You could also get name plates on them. I really wanted No. 8 (Caitlin's Tyger number), but it was not my size:
