Thursday night: Liam-style
Apr. 7th, 2011 08:10 pm1. I am gonna give this LJ thing a whirl. It might help me center myself and focus a little bit more. I have been a bit scattered lately, as your can tell if you read facebook.
2. Life, in general, is good. I have been promoted, and I am in charge of three-plus papers in a weekly group on the New York-Vermont border. It's pretty cool. I get along well with my boss and his wife -- who runs the business side -- as well as with my reporters -- Young Skywalker and Chewie. I cannot decide if the boss is Darth Vader or Palpatine. (I joke).
The whole naming thing comes from when the boss and I sat down with the young reporter who I pushed to be given my full-time reporter's job. The publisher said something about, "Bill can teach you a lot. He's been at this a long time." To which I said, "Yoda, I am."
3. Today's phone calls included the guy who saw Bigfoot (a number of folks up here have, and one of the local baords has made it illegal to hunt Bigfoot), and the woman who was cranky because the announcement about her grandson's military award ran in one paper but not the other. "I bought five papers because I thought it was in there. I wasted my money." Hi, you wanna check first?
4. The Red Sox are 0-6 and have three games ahead with the Yankees. More Scotch, please?
5. Jerry Garcia had a guitar named Rosebud? How utterly cool.
6. I am really, really jonesing for Spring. They're talking about temperatures in the 70s next week (or someone is), and there are still clumps of snow in a few places.
