Good morning, all.
1. The school seems to be reacting well to Courtney's death. There will be counselors at school this afternoon, and they will be using the library on Monday as a place for kids to go to grieve. I have been nthrough a few of these (including with a colleague), and when it's a senior, it's even harder. We're talking six months from graduation and only a couple of months from her senior softball season. She was a league all-star. I don't teach seniors, so it should effect my classes, but my senior National Honor Society kids are gonan be hit hard. This is actually the second of the year, we lost a freshman (I think) over the summer.
2. Switching gears. I heard something on the radio that annoyed me. They played a clip from Deval Patrick's discussion with high school kids at his Youth Inaugural. It was a high school girl saying, "Deval, I want to thank you." It just grated on me. I know he's arm and fuzzy, but how about, "Gov. Patrick?" I hate it when kids call adults by their first names, especially in formal situation. I would have even taken, "Your Excellency." (I am kidding).
3. I think my "Sent Items" folder needs to be cleaned out. I have not cleaned it since May 8, 2005, and I have sent 4134 messages in that time. Oh, and the "Deleted Items" folder is worse. It's at 10,952. That's about six months (because of all the spam), but there is a message in there that goes back to March 26, 2003, that I had cleaned out from somwhere else.
4. Looking for recommendations.
5. And
evilnicola's birthday party rocked. There was much pink.
Shiny extra credit points for anyone (other than alethea_eastrid) who can identify the lyric in the subject line). (She already has all the extra-shiny bonus points she needs.

- Any suggestions on good web comics?
- How about this: Is there anyone on your friends' list I definitely should be reading?
- What's the one thing I should do at Arisia next weekend?
