SCA song list
Oct. 20th, 2007 10:05 pmA long, long time ago . . . I can still remember . . . people asked me for the list of songs I would have played at Pennsic if I had been able to run my SCA songs class.
I have done it a couple of other times, and here's what I usually do.
I start with "Flower of the Desert," by Joe Baldwin of Erebor, which is an amthem to Atenveldt and was the first SCA song I remember hearing.
I follow with "Home to Ealdormere," by Hector of the Black Height, one of his many odes to his homeland.
Depending on the lenth of the class, I might follow with "Where are the Dragons?" a Midrealm song from Chateau Teafort Trio.
Then I will get more serious with "Call The Names," and "One of Us" from Heather Dale. "One of Us" is consistently the most remarked-upon song that I play.
It's time for humor after that, usually starting with "I'm a Duke and You're No" by Lord Thomas Bourdeaux.
Then "Ban The Fencers" from JP Andrews (Raven Boy music).
Again, depending on the length of the class, I might add one more, maybe "The Herald's Complaint" from Baldwin of Erebor.
As a brdige, I sometimes play " The InDUCKtion Song" song by Master John Inchingham, whoch is a funny song about peerages, but also has a serious side.
I do some historical stuff, including a version of "Song of the Shield Wall," which is not available commercially.
I also play "Hastings 1066" by JP Andrews.
"Song of Roland" is another good one. I now have the Sir Byrce de Byram version.
I also play "Hotspur." I was using a Calontiri version, I think, but know that I have Sir Bryce's CD, I would use his version.
If I can get someone to sing "Born On The Listfield," I would end with that, but I have not yet.
I may be missing something.
Now that I have a CD from "The Whiskey Bards," I would add "Soldiers Three" or maybe "Cruiscin Lan."
Thoughts?
