Very little snow on the ground, but it iced up pretty good.

Most local schools are off.

I scraped both vehicles, and I am about to head for work.

I am fascinated by a Russian company buying LJ. I wonder how much mainstream press it would get. I man, it's not MySpace or FaceBook (which is why many of us are here).

I got lots of housecleaning done yesterday. Yay!

It will be interesting to see how Mitt Romney handles his Mormon speech.

More later.

1. The best thing about coming in out of an North Country December day is the heat in the house, the smell of the chicken in the crock pot and . . . eatin' the chicken. Wow.

2. First of all, so amused at the fact there is a [livejournal.com profile] lolhistory, Second . . . We have a winnah . . .

It had to be said.

3. The recipe for the following post is here!

And the red eyes scare me:

4. I do not know how I missed this:

A principal at a high school in Lower Manhattan had heard the jokes about using a “sage,” or spiritual guru, to perform a “cleansing” of the building to counteract misbehaving students. The principal took the jokes seriously –- performing a Santeria ceremony during the school’s midwinter break in 2006, according to a report released today by the special commissioner of investigation for the New York City public schools.

The rest is here!

5. Oh, this is a first for me. I was going to write a story on a tour at an historic mansion/B&B. The tour -- and therefore the story -- got canceled because the owner of the place unexpectedly died.

Jerry Orbach, by the way, bore quite the resemblance to the late John Lewis Toscano, whom I called, "Dad."

So I am poking through Law & Order quotes, because I miss watching it.

And this pops up, something that happens to me on a "regular basis."

Coffee Shop Clerk: [Briscoe and Curtis are investigating the disappearance of a coffee shop owner] He usually likes to keep a close watch on the cash drawer, but he hasn't been around in a couple of days. Anyway, how about a free large latte on the house?

Det. Lennie Briscoe: Maybe for the kid here, but I'd like a regular coffee.

Coffee Shop Clerk: Okay, how would you like it?

Det. Lennie Briscoe: Uh, regular?

More classic Brscoe:

"Just like the Bates Hotel. They check in but they never check out. "

"I'm trying to decide what to arrest you for - obstruction of justice, harboring a fugitive or just being a general pain in the ass!"

"I told you, you should have gone to bed with her. You're getting the grief without getting the gravy.

"Even though you are a taxpayer, you know, we don't actually work for you personally. "

And just for fun, three from a character played by a current presidental candidate:

D.A. Arthur Branch: Sometimes the good you do won't do you any good.

DA Branch: Well, I guess it beats dousing yourself in rum and lighting up a Cohiba.

EADA Jack McCoy: You can re-write the law when you're appointed to the Supreme Court.

D.A. Arthur Branch: God willing.

I cried after work today, but they were happy tears.

So at the end of the day, I shut my computer down.

Then I realize that A) I have the wrong date for two events that I just sent out press releases for and B) I forgot to send the release I had been working on all day.

I turn the computer on, fix those things and check my e-mail one last time.

There's a note that someone has donated to my Polar Plunge account.

That's cool.

But . . . wait . . . it's for $165!

I do the math. When I dove in, my total on the web page was $835. My goal was $1,000.

Someone took the time to figure out what I needed to get to the goal and donated it!

I was stunned and humbled that someone would do that.

I am unsure if the person wants to be recognized, but if I get the OK, I will edit the post and add the name. It's someone from LJ and the SCA.

Thanks to everyone.

Just wow.
