Oh, I almost forgot . . .

I am back in the saddle again.

It was just a typical high school basketball game, and the story is pretty straight-forward, but I am back in the sportwriting business, stringing for the Glens Falls Post-Star.

Bobby Fischer, the iconoclastic genius who was one of the greatest chess players the world has ever seen, has died, a close family friend, Gardar Sverrisson, confirmed Friday.

He was 64 and died on Thursday in a hospital in Reykjavík, Iceland. No cause of death was given but he had suffered for some time from an unspecified illness.

I have some really strong memories of his series against Boris Spassky in 1972. We spent the summer listening to it, playing basketball and talking about the Olympics at Charlie Crabtree's house.
