1. Welcome to  ~prisbatty, ~amysuemom, and  ~hughcasey.

2. For those of you who know [livejournal.com profile] jenphalian, I talked to her tonight. She said she will be coming home from the hospital tomorrow, and all is well.

3. Birka was overwhelming. I did too much, and I still getting get some things done. Congratualtions to [livejournal.com profile] vairavi and [livejournal.com profile] rising_moon for -- respectively --  a Manche and a Troubador. I got way too little time with most of my friends, and I was painfully reminded this morning that while 21-year-olds can push the night close to dawn, middle-aged guys need to get to bed before 2:30 a.m. I will probably post more later. I met a lot of people, including some LJ folks I had not met yet. Oh, you know what's cool? Listening to your wife read a scroll that you wrote. (Caroline de la Pointe's Silver Crescent scroll.

4. Some day, I will learn how to use my camera right and be able to take pictures indoor, without flash. Until then, you will not see any pictures of East Kingdom Court in my photo collection. There's this whole kingdom law thing. I know some people are able to take these photos without flash. But if you need flash, you shouldn't be taking pictures. I know this might annoy some of my dear friends, but this is gonna be one of those rare "It's my journal" comments. Some of you may remember that at one point, Brion and Anna wanted to lift the restriction and received so many comments that they reconsidered.

5. One of the results of East Kingdom Curia is that you can qualify to fight heavy list at Pennsic, instead of having to qualify in advance.

6. Caroline Kennedy, writing in the New York Times under the headline "A president like my father," endorsed Barack Obama today. Her Uncle Ted is expected to do the same tomorrow.

7. So, Christian Brando has died at 49. That is all.

8. I think it's pretty classless of Lyn Cheney, whose sister Mary is a lesbian, to join with noted homophobe -- and all-around uncool guy -- Mitt Romney. But that's just me.

9. Would you say "lesbian" or "a lesbian" in that construction?

1. There was a peerage at Birka. Duke Lucan is now a member of the Order of the Pelican, and Duke Brion got a Troubador and sang "Born on The Listfield" in court (which I managed to miss). And let's not forget "Lord Hugh!!!!!"

2. Little things annoy me sometimes. Birka was great, but there was no signage as to where Gate was, and the line that led to Gate was not the same one for those who were pre-registered. It got confusing, and, yeah, I wound up in a line that I didn't need to be in. Two staff members did not know where pre-reg was when I asked. But that's about my only complaint. The event was well-run.

3. Kudos to the hotel. I know we are a boon for them, but they are really friendly and bend over backwards. Arisia fans will appreciate this: While the elevator situation is not nearly the issue it is at Arisia, the *hotel* put a staff member in at least one elevator (maybe more) to expedite things. They do the little things right.

4. *Sigh* To the four pirates. Your outfits and amazing. You have put a lot of time and effort in, and that's really impressive. But it's not an attempt at pre-17th century garb, so you could have been wearing catsuits, pajamas, jeans or a spacesuit. Get out of our event. You do not belong here.

5. Compliments to [livejournal.com profile] lumineaux for getting through a huge court very quickly. I did like the potty break after the six Silver Crescents. She and Alethea, [livejournal.com profile] fencerm2 and Maitre Alexandre did a great job as heralds.

6. [livejournal.com profile] alethea_eastrid is watching the U.S. men's figure skating championships, and the two musical accompaniments I have heard are "The Godfather" and "Stairway to Heaven." Cool, but kinda slow.
