Monday night: Trying to wind down . . .
Feb. 11th, 2008 09:22 pm1. Busy day in the youth grant business: I spent the day in my office, writing things, taking notes, and working on next year's grant (it will be year three of five). Not a lot of schmoozing. Not very Liamesque.
2. Whining about the weather: Sometimes, I wonder why
alethea_eastrid couldn't have gotten her first job at, say, the Key West Public Library. Oh, I love it up here. It's beautiful, I am becoming a cheese geek, and the local papers are pretty good. The weather? Well the Christmas gift from Alethea's parents says it's 14 degrees. The forecast says down to 7, high of 22, when the snow starts tomorrow afternoon. Snow continues overnight, and the temperature drops back down again, just in time for 6 a.m. or so Wednesday morning when the dreaded "wintry mix" moves in. Yeah. Maybe seven inches of snow. Me? Complain? Yeah.
3. Comparing B5 and LotR: Bester is Gollum?
4. Seafood Saturday?: In addition to Sunday's plan for about 5 p.m. (subject to change) dinner at the Publick House of Brookline, it appears as though our dining plans might also include a Saturday night visit to the No Name Seafood Restaurant, a Boston classic. Unsure on the time, and may not be sure until Saturday afternoon. It just defies description.
5. We can have etiquette:
classics_cat points out an extremely well-done post on LJ etiquette. Yes, there is such a thing.
6. In the pet store: The link shows the wet food, but the company also makes a dry dog food. I give you turducken. A joke often has many levels.
7. No shit, there she was: The sweet
evilnicola, sitting in Medieval Literature class. The professor is describing what it was like around the time Milton was alive.
Professor: "1648."
Niki (to herself): "Treaty of Westphalia."
Professor: "Treaty of Westphalia."
Niki (to herself): "And the number on Beacon Street where The Publick House is!"
Yes, a friend pointed out to me years ago that the street address of my favorite bar has historical significance.
