The old man still has his fastball
Jul. 12th, 2008 11:13 pmHumor me.
So tonight I was covering a Women's Premier Soccer League match in Loudonville, NY -- about an hour and 15 minutes from the office of the Glens Falls Post-Star.
Now, you have to understand that in most newspaper sports sections, deadline for stories is "Five minutes ago, dammit!" So, I had done a little research, and I wrote three paragraphs before the match started.
The match was scheduled for 6 p.m., but started at 6:20 and ended at about 8:15, and I got out of there at 8:45.
By 9:30, I had driven to a Panera Bread, gotten a coffee and a scone, written the story, sent it and walked out to my car.
We're talking a complete game shutout. Maybe a four-hitter. It's a good thing they have the big right-hander in the bullpen.
No, you are not necessarily supposed to understand it, but boy-howdy it felt good.
