1. Welcome to [livejournal.com profile] purpura.

2. Spent the day at Hunters Moon with [livejournal.com profile] xgreenjudasx, who gifted us with Sotch, and a boatload of Regnesfolk. Talking and drinking and relaxing. I fell in love three times, and I also made a fast friend of a four-year-old. It was very cool. I believe Mountain Dew Mead should be banned because of the potential danger of drinking a quart of it, then being wired for two days. I sipped it. Wulstan brought gallon jugs of it. Had burgers for dinner. [livejournal.com profile] alethea_eastrid spent the day doing princess stuff, like planning Coronation with Master Ernst.

3. Sometimes I surprise even myself with my bullshitting ability. We stopped at he cool package store on Route 7 in Troy. Met the manager, Greg, and talked for a long time. He gave us a couple of samples, including Lost Coast's Downtown Brown, which was kickier than the average brown, and Dale's Pale Ale, a craft brew in a can that was, well, OK. He said they are expanding their selection and will also order more cider varieties for A. He said, "I wish I could talk beer like you." Alethea was bemused.

4. The Gustav stuff reads out of a disaster novel. I will be saying a lot of prayers. If you do that, or anything else, please send good thoughts for [livejournal.com profile] soldiergrrl  who has been mobilized for this and is heading into the teeth of the storm.

5. Rocco Baldelli is one of the single finest young men ever to play high school baseball in New England, even if he convinced the Rays to draft him in the first round by spoiling the playoff hopes of my own Westerly Bulldogs. He has suffered some injuries in the pros, so this makes me very, very happy. (A two-seamer is a type of fastball.)

From MLB.com

ST. PETERSBURG -- There were some bumps for the Rays and bruises for Rocco Baldelli. But when the designated hitter smashed a two-seamer from Orioles reliever Rocky Cherry down the left-field line to score Carlos Pena in the bottom of the ninth inning, the pain that ensued was well worth it.

Making just his seventh start since being activated from the disabled list on Aug. 10, Baldelli's game-ending RBI double delivered the knockout punch in a series-clinching 10-9 win on Saturday in front of 34,805 fans at Tropicana Field.

6. Former student Brian Macy, another fine young man:

Brian Macy of Ledyard (yellow shorts) knocks out Shawn Kirk of Lexington, KY in the first round with a time of 1:49.
