1. This morning, I jokingly said to [livejournal.com profile] alethea_eastrid: "Maybe we should just leave the car and the truck snowed in, because it's just gonna snow again tomorrow." After about 15 minutes, I realized this was not really a rhetorical question. It may be a plan. I have to go look. It is, by the way, still snowing.

It's apparently going to recharge and start back up tomorrow morning at 4 or so. It's another one of those "You can't see it, but it's gonna happen" storms. The road looks good though. We live on the eastern-most main north-south thoroughfare in New York -- Route 22. There is a prison on the road and a couple of sheriff and state police stations. (For those familiar with the Northway (I-87), this road parallels it about 15 or so miles east. About a mile down the road, you hit Route 29, which is a major east-west route that leads to the Northway. It is fairly well-maintained, too.

2. And again, I repeat, the people at Special Olympics New York were brilliant for scheduling the Polar Plunge *last* weekend. I do not think they have one scheduled for today.

3. Do you read "Two Lumps?" If you have cats, you should. It gets a little strange sometimes, and I could not figure out today's until Alethea started cackling.

Edit: That's "Eight Maids 'A Milking."

She pointed out that they have been doing "The 12 Days of Christmas" and today is the eighth day:

4. I got lucky this morning and managed to score a pair of Dropkick Murphy tickets for [livejournal.com profile] evilnicola, who didn't have computer access this morning. The St. Patrick's Night show and the Friday night show were sold out, but I hit on the Saturday matinee.

5. OK, a great beer commercial!

6. [livejournal.com profile] joedecker, who is my early warning system on major GLBT issues, linked to [livejournal.com profile] engayge_america, which provided excellent information about the "Campbell Soup Boycott."

I liked Joe's idea about buying Campbell Soup and giving it to food pantries and soup kitchens.

Anyway, so I call the number for Campbell Soup, and the voice says: "If this is a medical emergency, press 1, for all other calls, press 2."

I wonder if they get a lot of medical emegrency calls.

Anyway, there's no way to leave a message, so I will call back Monday in support.

7. Because[livejournal.com profile] rhodri was asking about his beer, I present today's Latin lesson:

You have a beer.

Cervisiam habes.

I have no beer.

Cervisiae careo.

What kind of friend are you?

Qualis amicus es?

1. Yes, still snowing. Make that 28 or so hours at this point.

Light, fluffy snow. The car and the truck are in the village municipal lot, and while I did dig them out a bit, they really just needed to have the eight or so inches of snow brushed off.

As I said, the main roads are taken care of, but they are still snowy and a bit slick. We had a couple ambulances go by the house, and one came back with lights and siren going.

2. Snow means cooking. This morning, [livejournal.com profile] alethea_eastrid got coffee (chocolate-raspberry from Green Mountain) and "Cheesy Eggs" with onions and garlic for breakfast. She made some Trader Joe's Chocolate Chip cookies, then I baked the swordfish in olive oil, garlic and lemon. I ate two pieces, and she's going to make curried fish and vegetables with the rest. Edit: She just handed me hot chocolate.

Next up, mussels, steamed in black pepper, lemon and beer (and maybe something else).

3. The forecast, well maybe a little more accumulation overnight, and then there's Sunday's fprecast from www.noaa.gov:

Sunday: Snow. High near 28. Wind chill values as low as -8. East wind between 9 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 6 to 10 inches possible.

4. I will likely be on AIM and Yahoo the rest of the day and evening. Info is on my user page. I may take a break to conquer proto-England in the name of Thor.

5. [livejournal.com profile] lumineaux: Alethea has had the Boar's Head Carol running through her head all day. I tried to distract her with Manah-manah, but it didn't work.

6. And many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] rennie_frog for my felted slipper/shoes which are not just for the SCA and are as warm as heck.

7. I leave you with a couple of pictures from just outside my front door this afternoon.
