1. Welcome to [info]minstrlmummr  , the Queen’s bard,[info]thursdayschild   ,  another great bard and a finalist in K&Q Bardic, and [info]rosefireopal  , because one cannot have enough Atlantians.

2. It’s been an odd start to the day. The big snowstorm had hardly started when I left for work, but it’s coming down harder now. I got to the municipal lot, where we park, because we cannot park on the street during and after snowstorms, and I found that the village has now said no parking there from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. at all. (We all used to park on an abandoned grocery store parking lot next door, but it’s been paved over and enclosed.

3. On Wednesdays, I work in an office in another county. It’s good for me (bad for productivity), because I can access gmail. But I have to access my work re-mail remotely, and there’s something a little funky sometimes, and instead of getting the county, I get a business site. I guess this happens sometimes. So I call the office to tell them I am out of e-mail contact, and the phone is busy. (Note: It's all better now).

4. Then comes the fabulous news – or actually the fabulous story in the newspaper. As many of you know, when I am not the Grand Poobah of the Liamverse, I am a mild-mannered guy who runs a youth grant that’s designed to benefit kids in Washington and Warren Counties in upstate New York.

It’s been 14 months now, and there has been good times and touch times. In one town, Lake George, things are going really well. I have not done as good a job as I had hoped with publicity and such. I convinced the editor of the local daily to come to a community meeting last week, and I gotta say, I do not think I could have written this column any better myself.

5. I just realized last night that Feb. 7 is an open weekend. Yee-ha!

6. Here’s a good summation of the 100-0 girls’ basketball game last week with enough comments to keep you busy reading until tomorrow.

7. I went to the CPAP doctor yesterday, because I have not been sleeping well. He’s going to put me on a variable setting, which may mean a new machine. He also pointed out that one of my medications, which is supposed to help me sleep, may be messing with the apnea. I cut it back last night (I have the OK from the doc to do that) and it seemed to work out OK.

1. I saw everything from hail to snow to sleet and back again on the, oh, say one hour and 15 minute ride home. The roads were passable in spots and crappy in others. A couple hills were real challenges. I don't think I ever got above 35 mph.

2. You need to take part in [livejournal.com profile] slipjig's Movie Madness!!! or your socks will all rebel and take over the dresser.

3. I guess I am a verb

Someone asked me to "Liam this out" for the deputy autocrat of Noisemakers' Schola, which is March 14.

St. Mark's Church, where we will soon be enjoying the Noisemakers' Schola, and have enjoyed many events, collects non-perishable food for
the homeless and for shut-ins.  Here's a little information from their website (
http://www.thewelcomeplace.net/Faith_In_Action.htm):

Purpose:        Provides meals to shut-ins.
What:   Prepare meals from food contributed by our members. Meals are
frozen and delivered to the Aid for Friends freezer for distribution
When:   As members prepare meals, they prepare Aid For Friends meals and
bring to church. We often meet to pack 40 or so meals.

Her Excellency Philly Brown may know more details if needed.

If people want to bring canned goods for this program to Noisemakers, so that at the end of the event we could donate them to the church for
its homeless and shut-in programs, that would be a nice gesture, since the church treats us so well.

This isn't a requirement by any means.   We will have a lot of fun at this event regardless. :-)  However, if you're able to provide a can
or two, we think it'd be a very cool thing.

4. More "Liaming."

I don't think I will be there, but Northern Lights, March 21, is cool. Pre-registration is open. The pre-registration discount runs to March 7, but you *can* pre-register after that.

5. I liked this column about our youth initiative that I am putting it in back-to-back posts.

6. I discovered an unexpected bottle of Stone Arrogant Bastard in the refrigerator last night. I "liberated" it.

7. The Washington Post tells us President Obama kidded the Washington-area schools -- including Sidwell Friends, where his daughters go -- about closing for today's storm. He offered to help toughen them up.

The associate head of school at Sidwell Friends has the kind of snarkiness [livejournal.com profile] alethea_eastrid cherishes:

"No question, the president is right. The next time it snows, we would like to invite him to help us make the decision. His involvement will make it much easier to explain to our students why they won't be able to spend the day sleeping and sledding."
