If a punchline makes me wince in pain, it's gotta be bad.

We are sponsoring a speaker tonight, so I am working a 1-9 p.m. day today.

I like sitting here in only my big towel, reading and responding top the Internets at 9:43 a.m. ;)

I have done the dishes and cleaned up a bit in the kitchen.

I will be doing laundry on the way to work.

The speaker is John Halligan, whose son was 13 when he committed suicide after being bullied at school and on the Internet.

He has spoken around here before, and is very good. I do hope we get a good crowd.

It's going to be a busy week. More or less the same shift tomorrow, then a possibly really long day Thursday. The next two weeks are busy, then the grant wraps up. I will then be doing summer youth employment.

I will post about Henry V, which was amazing.

The vast majority of the folks here in The Liamverse are in the SCA, and many of my posts are either SCA-specific or include a couple of SCA items.

I am looking for the knowledge of the masses, here.

We talk a lot about the SCA here.

How representative of the SCA as a whole do you think this journal is?

Obviously, its members are predominately Easterners, but we have a good number of Atlantians, Calontiri and Aethelmearcians. We have presentatives from most kingdoms.

We have former royalty, society and kingdom officers and folks who just do what they do in the SCA and don't worry about all that stuff.

We are well-represented by peers, and while I am not a fighter, I think we have a decent number (more than six) of knights, although I would have to admit -- and this is a positive comment -- that they are not what one might think of as a "typical" knight. (At least two have either a Laurel or a Pelican as well).

I love the mixture of people we have. We have people who run court and people who avoid court. We have people who live the SCA and people who play on occasional weekends. We have folks who were at Pennsic "Single Digits" and those who are just edging into the Society.

So today's philosophical question is:

Are the SCA discussions we have here fairly representative?

(As I said, I will stipulate an Eastern bias).

Actors, spectators, musicians, cooks!

What was your favorite moment of Henry V Saturday?

OK, I had a little lull this afternoon, so I went and looked at some things.

Please feel free to comemnt:

1. There are about 600 people listed as reading this journal,  and I counted about 35-40 who are not related to the SCA in any way,

I was surprised it was so few. I would have expected at least 100.

Those folks are either local folks I have picked up, con folks, poly-group folks or from other random LJ groups.

2. OK, clearly we have established how difficult is would be to get a proper representation of the SCA anyway.

So I pose this: How representative do you think "The Liamverse" is of Scadians who are on LJ.

Same skews, I suppose Eastern-centric (Eastern-centric?????) and kinda old-timey. More hats?

3. OK, so maybe I was putting off work.

There are just under 2,000 users on the LJ group SCA, and a full nine percent (about 175) are here. I thought that was kind of interesting.

4. I love to read other Scadian's journals. Otherwise, I would not know about the term "dayboard-o-crat."

5. Nor would I have seen the following line about a bunny-fur bikini: "That's nice. Do they make it in your size?"

6. I apologize for sounding like I am obssessed with this journal. ("Obssessed" is just a *harsh* word), but I spend a lot of time here.

7. Speaking of skew, I think there's a pretty serious liberal bias here. What thinks youse?

From the New York Times

ALBANY – Republicans seized control of the New York State Senate on Monday, in a stunning and sudden reversal of fortunes for the Democratic Party, which controlled the chamber for barely five months.

A raucous leadership fight erupted on the floor of the Senate around 3 p.m., with two Democrats, Pedro Espada Jr. of the Bronx and Hiram Monserrate of Queens, joining the 30 Senate Republicans in a motion that would displace Democrats as the party in control.

Espada is loudly against same-sex marriage.

That's one fo the reasons he split from the previous Senate president.

So why was I navel-gazing about the folks who read and comment here.

A friend posted something in her LJ and got some overwhelming responses about the touchy topic of "Why can't Crown be decided by fencing at least once in a while?"

I wondered how different it would be if discussed here.

Some of you took part in that discussion, and while she said I could repost it, she asked I not identify her.

Note: I have opened a third thread.

Please head over there.
