We still live in Salem, though we hope to move closer to the area in which we both work by the end of the year.

I had a slight change in hours, so we could not get to the Salem post office except for Saturdays without being late for work/leaving early.

Five things that make me happy today

1. After not seeing deer all summer, I saw single deer in two separate meadows, then the big herd out in the fields at Sheldon's on the way home yesterday.

2. My wife is doing her first theatre techie job in years tonight and tomorrow.

3. I can haz Southern Tier Pumking Ale, thanks to a good friend.

4. High school and college football start this weekend, and I am covering a high school game both Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

5. I have a number of good books lined up to read, including Seanan McGuire's "Rosemary & Rue," and John Ringo's "The Last Centurion."

Five things that are wrong . . . (Bottom item NSFW)

1. Doing kegstands at your kid's graduation party -- with other graduates there -- when you are a teacher and your husband is on the school board.

2. Police chiefs, in neighboring towns, no less, who apparently say things like, ""This wasn't just some spook that was killed,"  and  "There's a ni*#er in the woodpile." (The story will explain why I spelled it that way.)

3. Parents who think a book written by the sitting president isn't appropriate for summer reading. Also wrong are parents who just don't get it.




4. People who lie.
