1. Apparently some folks told [livejournal.com profile] eithni the Liamverse was a warm and affirming place. Well, maybe they said "interesting." Maybe they said, "Stay the Hell away from there," and she popped in anyway . . . .

No matter. Welcome. Vivat Northshield!

I know there are other new folks skulking about. C'mon. It's "Intro Time!"

2. So, the scallops were edging toward the brink, so I flipped them into the wok, added a couple of chopped up salmon burgers, some cooked shrimp, frozen peas and sweet potatoes and spices -- including Cajun seasoning -- and added rice. The Countess, I believe, said, "Nom!"

I made sure there was enough rice left over for ride pudding. The Countess said, "Breakfast!!!!!"

3. How the heck did I get on [livejournal.com profile] costume_snark?

I thought I was replying to a friend's personal LJ and all of a sudden I am surrounded by costumers.

Aiiiiieeeeeee!

(Kidding, I lova all ya'all.)

4. Well, EK List is sorta interesting right now, in the walking on eggshells sort of way. I am being good. I do not think I have posted yet. Shhhhhhhhh!

5. So there are still a lot of boxes in the apartment, though a lot more of them are empty now.

Cats *like* empty boxes. A lot.

I think I heard "[Scream] Goddamned cats!" at least three times tonight from the fair [livejournal.com profile] alethea_eastrid.

6. Sometimes I am embarrassed to be Catholic: I have discussed religion here before. I think of myself as a "Free-range Christian," but I was raised Catholic and Catholic teaching -- and guilt -- are still a big part of my life.

I am greatly bothered by the news in this Washington Post article.

Catholic Church gives D.C. ultimatum

The Catholic Archdiocese of Washington said Wednesday that it will be unable to continue the social service programs it runs for the District if the city doesn't change a proposed same-sex marriage law, a threat that could affect tens of thousands of people the church helps with adoption, homelessness and health care.

Under the bill, headed for a D.C. Council vote next month, religious organizations would not be required to perform or make space available for same-sex weddings. But they would have to obey city laws prohibiting discrimination against gay men and lesbians.

Fearful that they could be forced, among other things, to extend employee benefits to same-sex married couples, church officials said they would have no choice but to abandon their contracts with the city.

"If the city requires this, we can't do it," Susan Gibbs, spokeswoman for the archdiocese, said Wednesday. "The city is saying in order to provide social services, you need to be secular. For us, that's really a problem."

Ya know what? This ain't what Jesus would do.

7. And because it fits in nicely, here's a cartoon from a student-produced blog at the Albany Times-Union.
