I did a meme recently, then went on a road trip.

I have been working on the answers.

[livejournal.com profile] bottledgoose asked:

I guess, the one thing I haven't noticed you touch on is just media consumption in general. What do you watch on TV? What musicians really get to you? What was the last movie you watched?

1. For two years, when I lived with a friend, there was no TV in the house, and in the 2.5 years since Allison and I moved in together, we only have had cable (the cheap option) since the Winter Olympics. I have never watched Lost or Heroes or anything else like that. When I do get to a TV, it’s for sports.

I am a huge Law & Order fan, we have watched most of NCIS on DVD. I loved St. Elsewhere and Hill Street Blues. Huge fan of M*A*S*H. I am sure I am missing something. I watched a lot of Saturday Night Live in the late 1970s and into the 1980s.

Also, Babylon 5, Farscape and all Star Trek series.

2. Great Big Sea is the one band I love most seeing in concert. I am also a huge fan of Jimmy Buffett, Bruce Springsteen, the Dropkick Murphys, Bob Dylan, the Grateful Dead, Toby Keith, Garth Brooks and lesser-known folks including the Arrogant Worms, Corb Lund, and James Keelaghan. I love Celtic and Celtic Punk, including the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, Flogging Molly, the Pogues, Hair of the Dogand Enter The Haggis.

Songs that really make me react emotionally include "I Will Remember You," "Forever Young," and "Drive," by Melissa Ferrick.

3. The last movie I saw in a theater was Invictus, a truly great film about Nelson Mandela and the Rugby World Cup.

My “Greatest Movies” list includes Animal House, Bull Durham, Casablanca, Apollo 13, For Love of the Game, Saving Private Ryan, Gettysburg, Heartbreak Ridge, VisionQuest and something obvious I am missing.

At least recently, you haven't really discuss your youth or the difficulties of being a parent . . .

I have not really talked a lot about my youth. Those were good days and they were bad days. I reveled in being Billy Toscano. He was a lot like Liam. I was able to move through most of the social groups in my schools.

I was not a great athlete, but I managed three sports, including football, where the coach was our assistant principal. Great guy. Did the school paper and talent show, too.

I did have a hard time the year my dad died (I was 15), but I rallied.

I went to college a year early, but if I had it to do over again, I would not.

As far as raising kids goes, it’s definitely a partnership between the parents. Our kids were really good kids. (Still are). There were a few tough times, there always are. But, I thoroughly enjoyed teaching in the schools they attended for all four years of their high school experience.

Right now. Well, [livejournal.com profile] evilnicola graduated last week, and [livejournal.com profile] theresat graduates this week. I am incredibly proud of them.

What part of the SCA do you like the least?

BUTTON!

The people who never forget. Have a statute of limitations for God’s sake! If someone did something bad to you, and it wasn’t setting you on fire or letting rabid French wolverines loose on you, give it up! Two years is legitimate if it was really bad. Five years maximum. If you are still opposing someone’s peerage, and the incident was 10 years ago, find a new hobby.

Or you choose to forget what happened. I honestly do not remember who told me that my Pelican came for blowing Darius, and you know what, it’s better that way.

I don't seem to recall any posts about embroidery... ;)

Embroidery fascinates me. I love to look at it. I love how people look in it, My protégé, [livejournal.com profile] ladytat, gifted me with a strip of blackwork (which I can only find when she doesn’t need it for A&S displays. ;) It’s gorgeous.

I have convinced myself I cannot do handwork. I really oughta try
