1. Welcome to brickhousewench.
“I want to be. In Germany. In a Landskenecht battalion, mit you.”
2. Busy weekend. Went to a cool church outreach yesterday morning for a story for the local paper, then went to see Great Big Sea and Natalie MacMaster at a ski area in Vermont, two hours away. Then covered a bike ride today focusing on farmland stewardship. The story is not up yet.
Set list for Great Big Sea:
Last night's set list started with Lukey, Process Man, Captain Kidd, Paddy Murphy, When I'm Up and Jack Hicks.
Sean was a little ragged, but he did Safe Upon The Shore a capella, with a amazing harmony from the rest of the band on the chorus.
They followed with Gideon Brown, as a request for a guy at his 100th show, when Good People, Nothing But A Song, When I am King, River Driver (a capella), Scolding Wife and I'm A Rover.
Then, Sea of No Cares, Consequence Free, Mari-Mac and Ordinary Day to close.
Alan came back out to do Boston & St. John's by himself, and they finished with Excursion Around The Day (a capella) and Tishaluk Set.
Safe Upon the Shore, Good People and Nothing But a Song are from the new CD, “Safe Upon the Shore.”
3. The New York Times always has fascinating education stories like “Red-shirting kindergarteners.”
No, not a Trek reference.
4. I have been having an awfully hard time sleeping the last four nights. Up before down three of the four days, including this morning, when I had to shut the windows because of a heavy rain, which has stayed on and off all day.
I had to take a nap to be functional.
5. We are closing in on the start of school, and I hope to start doing a lot of substitute teaching. That may be the only way to line myself up to get into a local school system. Maybe I can catch a long-term sub job that opens up.
Between substituting, working for the newspaper and writing resumes, I should be able to make a living. I do enjoy being able to work from home some of the time.
6. I have the new Naomi Novik "Temeraire" series book, and I have to say, it’s off to a rather plodding start. I will push through.
7. "That means they can't beat him, either."
