Pennsic stuff: The first run through
Aug. 23rd, 2010 02:13 pmThere's just so, so much.
1. Yes, I finished the quest. The officials numbers were 280 people and 1,203 introductions, but there were far more of both.
My king is a wise man. I managed to connect a lot of people. It was wonderful.
2. Even if I could manage my time well, there would have been waaay too much to do. I got so tired out I wound up in bed by 10 several nights, and there are any number of people I just didn't spend nearly enough time with.
cortejo, I am so sorry for not being able to come down. You're the first one who comes to mind.
I made it to about half the bardics I had hoped to get to.
3. For the third year in a row, I unpacked and within an hours was drinking beer with
rhodri2112 on Calontir's front porch. Met some great people, and Rhodri's taste in beer, bullshitting, songs and women is very similar to mine.
4. I worked at the Pennsic Independent, basically to pay for camp fees and the food plan. It's hard for me sometimes because while I enjoy it, I am a pro, and I cannot do things halfway, even if I have other stuff I need to do.
5. I did take more than 800 pictures, but I didn't have the camera for the A&S display on the first trip through, and I never made it back to the barn. As usual, running the Fencing Champions tournament meant few or no pictures. (No pictures in this case).
6. One of the most meaningful moments, for me, was the ceremony before
vairavi's. As she explained, when an Indian student is ready to move on, he/she gives a gift to her guru. Since she never had a specific guru (read Laurel), she asked four peers to come -- me, Baron Angus of Concordia, Mistress Nicolette and Baron Jehan), and she gave us each a small burlap bag with a double helping of rice.
7. I suppose I oughta post a pic with each one of these. ;)
Speaking of Rhodri!
