Wednesday evening: Home from work . . .
Apr. 20th, 2011 07:27 pmIt's challenging, and it's something I am good at.
I need to use old skills, and I am developing new skills.
I have guidance, and I also have a good deal of autonomy.
I have worked 33 hours this week, but then again the publisher and his wife are at Macchu Pichu, so I expected a long week.
The opportunities are there to help people, and the papers have been able to do that. I know for positive that some of the benefit parties held locally have done better than they would have without our stories.
For those who don't know, I am the managing editor of a group of six or so newspapers on the Vermont-NY border. I am never sure, because fo some of our monthly papers.
We have two papers that we charge for. One covers the town of Granville and nearby places, and the other does Whitehall and nearby places. We have a free "News you can use," featured-oriented, not hard news, paper in the lakes region of western Vermont. We also have some free shoppers. My focus is on the first three papers.
I say all this, because I have been whining a little about how hard work is. But I am making good money for up her (and for the industry), and I am happy just to have a job anyway.
Things are a little tight right now because of taxes, etc., but the future looks good.
More to come.
