1. It never ceases to amaze my wife that I can find so many connections with people.

No shit, there I was, at lunch today at the conference.

Talking to the principal of Argyle High School.

Him: Have we talked about your Rhode Island connection yet.

Me: I don't know, I was botn in Westerly.

Him: *I* was born in Westerly.

[At this point, I fervently wished that Allison had come to the conference. She would have snarfed pizza.]

Him: I only lived there for about a year, then we moved to South Glens Falls. (His family is from this area).

Me: Oh, OK.

Him: But my cousin Marc Berardo  . .

Me: That would be the Marc Berardo I graduated with . . .  Class of 1977.

Him: Yes . . .

2. All those CDS I ordered have come in (I think), and I also picked up some Boston. Rolling Stones, Weird Al ("Straight Outta Lynwood"), altan ("Best of", and Little Feat ("Waiting for Columbus").

3. I also ordered a couple of books, including one I had wanted for a very long time -- "The Complete Annotated Grateful Dead Lyrics."

4. Wow, if I am an editor, I do not know if I out the prostitute in the Sputzer case. I may actually agree with bashing the media on this one.

Hey, now that's something I didn't know we had in common. I'm one of "Jerry's kids" from way back!
Cheers,
Johanna

I'm beginning to believe that those connections are pretty much always there, you just have to keep your eyes and ears open for them.

It's worse in Boston of course. ;) And if you're a major hub type person, which you are, it happens more and more often...

Its the Rhode Island thing. Everyone who has ever spent time in Rhode Island is connected to everyone else who has ever spent time there in less than six degrees.

A note from the friends-of-friends list here: Hey, MY high school did a band and chorus exchange with Westerly High School in 1976!!! Were you in that?

I was in both band and chorus but wasn't terribly involved. First, your high school came up to Massachusetts to see us, and the girl who was supposed to stay at my house didn't go on the trip. So that was a bummer.

Then, just before we went to Westerly, my grandmother died. My Mom made me go on the trip anyhow ... "Grammy would have wanted you to." But I was placed with a host family in which the daughter was shunned by the rest of the Westerly High School crowd because she was pregnant, so between that and my sadness over my grandmother, I had a sucky weekend. Sorry about that.

You were from Gardner, right?

I think that was the year. (The other possibility is Athol).

My best friend Mike wound up dating a girl out of that exchange.

Who did you stay with, Gigi Gaccione?

Yep, Gardner High School Class of 1977. I have been to every reunion since. :-)

(Athol is a little farther west of Gardner, maybe 10 miles.)

I honestly don't remember the name of the girl I stayed with. She had brown hair and she was about six or seven months pregnant in May 1976 (toward the end of our junior year).

Were you in the band or chorus? I was in both. At the time I was in the second clarinet section, because my high school music teacher did not like me for some reason. At the start of senior year, we got a new band teacher, and he re-auditioned everyone and made me not just first clarinet, but first chair. :-)

I was not in either, but I might have been around because I did have friends who were.

You love the Dead as well? They are the first band I liked in high school. Proud to say I have followed the Dead.

Never been to a show, but I think their style -- along with Jim Croce and Jimmy Buffet -- helped me develop a rather eclectic musical taste.
