1. I do feel a little guilty about having Good Friday off, even though I am not a practicing Catholic. [It's hard to explain. I believe in much of the Catholic/Christian philosophy, but I believe in other thinsg too. I do not go to church at this point, so the point of the day is sorta lost.

2. I think the plan for today involves driving the back roads of Vermont on my way to Rutland to hit the health food co-op and a couple of other places. I will haul the camera out, I think. I do need to go get pictures of the lambs on Route 29.

3. Here are the Hugo nominations if you have not seen them. I have to wonder about John Scalzi being nominated for best novel and as "best fan writer."

4. This was interesting: I called my bank about the Hannaford situation where credit card numbers were exposed, and the guy -- who said he shops there too -- said it would be best *not* to cancel the debit card and that they were being extra vigilant and would reimburse any illegal transactions.

5. We got an inch or two of snow last night. I thought it was Spring.

Re: #5: Silly, silly man. This is Fimbulwinter. Spring will not come till after Ragnarok. (Actually, today in St. Louis it's quite nice. But the flooding might cause us to have delays getting to Coronation, since between us and there are all the major flood areas.)

"Yawn" I do not feel guilty about the gift of a day to sleep in after a rotten week :)

Have a great day!

I feel oddly liberated by this, much as I was when the Boston Globe gave away my credit card number. Why worry about who might be overhearing my credit card number if I say it over a portable phone? The whole world already knows my details! Mind you, when TJ Maxx *also* gave away my credit card number, Citi gave everyone new cards.

What bank do you use? I have BoA and I hate to say, but I trust them so little that not only am I planning to get a new debit card, I'm considering just saying that I lost it and not even telling them the real reason in case they hassle me about my paranoia.

What I need to do is get a real credit card and stop buying anything with my debit card unless I absolutely have to. There's also a Digital Federal Credit Union brick-and-mortar location that just opened around the corner from my house - yay!

they will not hassle you. They have been dealing with it all week.
I got Hit with a credit charge on my AMEX.. .(I LOVE Amex.. they look out for me and they called me about it)
Anyways.... I canceled all the cards that i even used there since i get a little cranky about that sort of thing.
BoA was very helpful and understanding and professional.

5. Pffft. You're in upstate NY now. NY cares not for the dictates of the calendar. ;-)

The Middle Hudson Valley cares not for calendars. For there are FIVE seasons. Winter, Mud, Spring, Summer, & Fall. Welcome to Mud Season.

Mud Season is best described as "Mother nature having Tourette's Syndrome."

2] Lambies! I have much envy.

5] If you only got an inch or two of snow, versus two feet, it *IS* spring where you are. When I lived there, we had snow as late as Memorial Day.

I talked to my bank as well about #4, and the teller said that what actually happened was they got the last 4 digits and the expiration date - no names or anything else. She said the way they were filming the clerks gave the security guys a view of the cards, and that for us at least (TD Banknorth), both the bank AND Visa (because my debit card is Visa) is guarenteeing the accounts.

They got the whole card number and the expiration date. Enough information to make purchases on the card, but not enough to steal anyone's identity. I am not sure about this "filming the clerks" thing, but if you are talking about Hannaford, that isn't what happened. I know, I work in Hannaford's IT department.

There is a lot of misinformation about this floating around. I am trying to just stay in my corner and be quiet because I am stressed out enough, but I do at least want people to be aware that there really and truly is a risk of your credit/debit card being used to purchase things. And no matter how much you trust your bank - keep checking your statements.

Ah, good to know. I'm super paranoid anyways (we just FINISHED dealing with stolen identity stuff) so I plan on keeping a very close eye on this for the next 6-8 months.

Thanks.

I believe that Faith and Religion are two separate things that can work together but do not need to.

I dont get along with Organized religions. however the Faith and some of their teachings are fine.

That's what I was saying, yes.

I was surprised he would get nominated for both.

I see his blog as mote of a writing blog.

I suppose you can be a fan and a pro, but that surprises me.

Thanks for the Hugo list. I haven't read most of what's on it but I'm glad to see some of my favorite writers are still around.

Don't feel bad about having the day off. Be happy. :)
